Defender Fuel Tank Capacity?

Hi all, just wondering from actual experience, how many litres of diesel you can fill into a standard Defender fuel tank?

What I really want to know is about how many litres are left (how many k's can I still do) once the fuel warning light comes on.

Currently, once the light comes on, my tank takes 60 litres, filling it right to the top.

In the TD5 Disco Handbook there is an excellent description of how many litres are left once the light comes on, but this information is not in my Defender Handbook.

I think 75 ltrs total... About 15 ltrs with fuel light on.

My manual say's 75L tank capacity. Gives me a range of about 700k from a tank. Will some day order a 35L quarter panel tank, and install it, but funds don't allow me at this time.

My 300Tdi has a 110 main and 90L sill tank so can't compare. The Puma (73L) seems to take about 64L when the light comes on.

I am guessing you are talking about 110's. The 90 tank is smaller (60l) (about 54l when the light comes on)

I can also confirm these figures for the Puma - and although I now have an extra 45 litres from my axillary tank - you have 9 litres once the light comes on.

On our recent trip I ran the tank dry at Noccundra, after putting 20 litres in from a jerry I drove the 1km back to the pub and put a further 62.06 litres in so 82.06 litres into a 98 Defender tank.

Book says 75 litres. When the light used to come on in ours we could fit 60 in the tank, therefore theoretically leaving 15 when the light came on. We now have a 127 litre Long Range tank and the light comes on with 30 left.

Thanks all for the replies Martyn has the real answer I was after - I wasn't game to run the main tank down that far on a relatively new car just to find out. I do have 2 sill tanks with another 110 litres on top of the standard main tank. I hope I will never have to test this level.

I didn't intend to test it either, with 80 litres in the sill tank I couldn't get to and no fuel gauge :eek::eek:
