Does anybody know what the item on the front wing is, the green part forward of the wing box mounting plate....

That is more than a standard wold, that's a special forces vehicle with lighter wheels, mg mounts etc.
The green parts look like antenna bases, but they could be part of an electronic countermeasure suite.3

So is that a derivative of the Puma engined Defender?

I believe so yes, and the bonnet bears this out.

I can see flaps.

I can see flaps.
Or are they just the cut outs as per the Puma?

Actually - I think I can see hinges. But there is a Transit Van behind them!

I can't see any bulge in the bonnet.
But I see they have some anti mine plate in the back.

The bulge is there under the basket on the bonnet.

Are they using the Puma engine? I wouldn't have thought that was 'Militarised' yet.
Are you sure its not just a 300tdi with the now standard bonnet?

I kinda thought that the new model Defender had the grill protruding past the light surrounds.
Can't see it.

yep its got vent flaps I dont know why. The arm hanging off the passangers side is the mount for an NATO MG pintle (typically not bigger than 7.62mm) and if you have that you generally dont want to be reaching over the windshield to shoot forwards.
ITs also fitted with the center wire cutter support boss (the blond guy appears to be bolting it down which is not fitted if the windshield is intended to remain in place.
this is also born out by the fact that the windshield is hinged. which makes the flaps doubly useless as when you fold the windshield down you dont need them AND the windshield blocks the flow to them anyway.
oh yeah the green things will be either the plug in point for the front mounted smoke launchers (when fitted) OR the mounts for Tac radio antennae and my money (based on the cable coiled up on the floor hanging out of the passenger side door) is on the latter.
the front grill of the puma engined donks does not need to be as far forwards as it is the fan shroud is about 3 feet long and the fan has a substantial extension boss on it.
The reason the flaps are on those particular Bulkheads is they are a standard hardened item for military service (eyeball the shoring up of the gun mount swing arm.
when you have a modular system (like a landrover) and you supersede something you change the bare minimum of large items and modify the item thats your installing to suit whats already there..
who else has noticed the anti mine armour?

G'day Folks :)
Yup! that looks like a couple of new upgraded WMIK Wolf's and probably bound for the hills on Afganistan, and that the more advanced vehicle is a "90".
cheers

Why does the closer of the two have an air intake vent on the left hand guard behind the wheel:confused:
Dave, you're not wrong about the Puma fan cowl. Mind you it's the first car I've owned in a very long time that getting to the fan belt is easy. They could have made them like a retro series II.

The British Army Wolf are 300 Tdi engined, TD5 was never offered to them, so would doubt very much that they are using the 'new' puma engined land rover already!

The bulges are probably the new electronic counter measures used to neutralize signals delivered to command detonated IED's unsure how they work but all pommy field vehicles must have them as an upgrade before going to theatre. basically a cell phone jammer.

No mention of an engine change anywhere I can see, so I reckon they are 300Tdi's still.
