Just joined the forum recently as only got my new defender two days ago, a1999 TD5 130 for those who are interested. Love it already and will be even better after some work.
Anyway I have started to strip it back in parts as much needs to be done and have found solutions to a few of the issues here on the site (sagging roof liner for an example). Where can a replacement/third party centre console/cubby box be found, or has anyone made their own before?

Welcome to the forum.
They're an available after market part from the likes of RovaCraft, RoverParts and many others. I'd try Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide for a second hand one first though.
It wouldn't be hard to make your own though as they are only plywood with a vinyl cover.

I made one to incorporate airconditioning, but it would be even easier to make a simple replacement. Mine is made from an aluminium frame with pop riveted aluminium panels, upholstered with foam padding and black vinyl.

Those were the type of thing yes, after looking around they are all pretty much the same with only slight differences.
Decided that I would make my own with the wood that was used behind the rear seat for the sub-woofer. Will post some pictures when done if anyone is interested. Low profile 25cm wide by 47.5cm long by 15cm high.
