P38 MT size

Asked in Tech Chatter but thought I'd come direct to the experts.
Can anyone please tell me what is the biggest sized M/T tyre that can fit on a rangie P38 97 model WITHOUT modifying the vehicle.
Current Rim size is 16x8. (2nd set.)

Pretty sure 265x75x16 is the biggest without mods..

Thanks Jeff, was beginning to think nobody actually fitted mud tires to these models. I know better because I've seen pictures. But pictures don't tell you what size the tires are.

Asking for a mate who has one but with the current cooper road tires and low profile on 18" rims he gets stuck pretty quick in slippery mud.

You'll be struggling with that size.

I have 245/75R16 Cooper ST and they scrape the rear wheelwell liners when the car is in access mode (read down on the bump stops). If the car drops to the bumpstops and you can't raise it, then you will be in trouble. My liners have grooves cut in them from the tyres.

The front wheels also scrape the mudflaps when on full lock when the car is down.

I run 255/70-16 BFG m/t's.
The tyres fit unmodified.

+ Great off road
- Speedo slightly inaccurate now (shows 100kph bue true is 102)
- Lower fuel economy
- Tyres hit wheel arches when off road and on bumpstops
- Spare wheel wont fit in rear spare wheel well
- Not very good braking on road.
- Noisy

I'm running 265/70x16 Cooper ST's on my P38A.

lots of rubbing at front when turning on highway and crawl mode.
Occassional rubbing on normal mode. Normal mode problem fixed by trimming some rubber off the front mudflaps.
occassional knock at front and rear when driving over gutters and falling off rocks/tracks/etc.
road handling still good but not as good as road tyres - duh! :-)
speedo out by approx 8kph at 100kph according to 2 GPS units - although NSW Police LIDAR reckoned I was doing 79 when I thought I was doing 70 last weekend.
spare wheel well now used for "Stuff Helpful In Trouble" as the spare won't fit. Be prepared to craft something clever in your boot and lose storage space or fork out $2.5k for a custom made wheel carrier.If I had to do it again, I'd probably opt for a Cooper ST or BFG tyre closer to the original size and save the hassles of rubbing and the cost of a rear bar/carrier.
