I love this photo, but I can't look at it for more than a few seconds...

Picture won't load. I suspect it's to hi-res for the forum as it loads if I copy the URL into my browser, try resizing.

Very shallow DOF, I'd have preferred the eyes to also be in focus.

Interesting, loaded for me.

Having the eyes out of focus was the whole point of the exercise, I hate the effect but it's fun ;-)

Depends on the lens and the hyperfocal distance.

Exactly.

But, out of pecking distance ;-)

I think it was around 3m, at a zoo. Used a 70-200 at 200mm and overexposed by I think 2/3 of a stop at f/4.

i'm getting so excited i just brought a 70-200, now i know that i can take pictures of crusty boogers too...lol...:D

there's a challenge for you then, replicate that shot using something else. A person with a long nose perhaps.
