I am currently in the process of upgrading to a new cheapy Compaq 793 with Vista home basic.
IE7 will not print. I have looked at the forums, Microsoft and HP and tried all the downloads , installations etc. everything else including Firefox prints no problem. I get an error on a download (Printing to HP3100) from MS 8001703 AFAIR which doesn't match any on their bloody list.!!
From the forums It seems relatively common with different HP printers, and HP Director seems at fault in some cases , but I do not have HP Director.

I even tried nominating the generic MS driver when on IE7 but no joy.(suggested on HP site)
Print does not work via preview/print /or print shortcut button. the icon shows up at the bottom and shows 0 in queue.
You would bloody think Microsoft would sort this sort of thing out wouldn't you?
Any ideas that I may have overlooked?
I have emailed Microsoft tech support, so I will report if any joy.
So I am writing this on Firefox. At the moment after about 4hours or so I am up to here with IE7.

Go in to IE7 and in the Tools menu go to the Add-ins manager and then check what add-ins are installed (and enabled). Try disabling the HP add-ins there. Close IE7 and then reopen and try printing and see what happens.

Also have you run all the Service Packs and necessary updates for Vista? This is almost mandatory, especially if it is a pre-SP1 installation kit it will be missing heaps of bug fixes.

Finally check the HP web site if there is a newer driver.

If all else fails, ditch Vista and move to a Mac, that's what I did:)

Just went through all this with a new Brother printer HL 2140,, out of the box vista ( IE7 AND Firefox )just laughed at it,,
took over a month before MS put out an update specifically to suit it,, must be a good seller:eek:

actually that reminds me,,
I might unload all the Brother crap/software and see if vista will just SEE the printer,,

I did as suggested by by MS help and dm-TD5 and disabled addons but no luck.
I have all MS updates installed and all HP updates.
I am over it., But I would like to use IE7 because of the key stroke encryption.
The printer works on everything else and even as a network printer to my networked NEC on XL.
