Sorry Inc......I should know by now to give as much info as possible when posting. I am aware you can do it this way, but I want each bookmark to open by default in a new tab if possible.

Cheers, Inc

That is about the only feature of IE7 that i like, there is a little tab next to the main tab that you click to open a new IE window, where as Firefox you have to go file > new tab .

Ctrl T will also open a new tab. I have set Firefox to open to AULRO & Google on 2 separate tabs. If I need to, I just use the Google page to open a bookmark.

The other option is to add your most used bookmarks to the toolbar, then just right click & open in a new tab.

I suspect i'm just being lazy as usual:angel::D.........all my shortcuts are currently across my toolbar so really I am just looking to reduce my mouse clicks from a heady 2 to 1..................... Prime example and insight into the damanding world we/I now live in I would suggest:D:D

How do you set Firefox to open AULRO and Google on separate tabs as this may be what i'm chasing?

Easiest way, is to have 2 tabs open to the pages you want to open on start up.

Go to Tools - Options - Main then click on the button that says "use current pages"

Just make sure that the AULRO page is at the log-in point, otherwise, things go haywire...

Instead of right clicking on the bookmark, "drag and drop" the bookmark onto the area to the right of the tabs. Assuming your bookmark toolbar is just above your tabs this means just dragging it down about a half cm.

Pretty quick.

But note if you drag and drop it onto an existing tab it will open it in that tab.

This question reminds me of another interesting way to use a bookmark with a sidebar. Not trying to hijack but mention it here in case it helps with MickG's scenario.

Easier to demonstrate than explain:
1. Create a bookmark for aulro.com
2. Right click and go to properties
3. Turn on the "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" option and "OK"
4. Now left click on the shortcut

It should open the aulro page in a sidebar of the current tab. You will not see all of the page but you should see a list of the latest threads.

Why is this useful?

You can now use this list of threads as a menu. Select one of the threads and it will open in the tab leaving the aulro page as it is in the sidebar. Saves you having to go back and forth all the time. I use this for the general chat bookmark as well. Okay also for Google when you expect a small number of useful results.

You can still use the drag and drop option as described in the previous post (#10) or right click it for normal operations. It only affects the left click operation.

Three button mouse and middle click to open in new tab.

I use it and use it and use it. The only reason to stick with Lenovo is the three button mouse laptops.:D

Dunno if it's an old hardware thing, but I've been having all kinds of irritating problems running Firefox 3. Buttons that don't do the right thing, text that disappears, pages that redraw themselves when I scroll down. I think it might have something to do with running rather old hardware.

In version 3.0.3 Firefox choose tools/options/tabs and select "new pages should be opened in a new tab" (not a new window).
Hope this helps.

Hi
hold down the shift key while clicking the mouse

This opens a whole new window rather than a new tab. If you hold down the CTRL key you get a new tab.

In version 3.0.3 Firefox choose tools/options/tabs and select "new pages should be opened in a new tab" (not a new window).
Hope this helps.

This does not help with links or bookmarks. It takes effect when you open a page from outside the browser eg from the start menu or quicklaunch bar. The page you have requested can either be opened as a tab in the existing browser process or start up a new browser process.

Holding Ctrl while left clicking a link or bookmark will open it in a new tab... Also, if you want a new tab you can press <Ctrl+T> and a new one will spring to life... I find these methods the easiest.

Fantistic Ticka.....thanks for the tip. Knew the Ctrl+T for new tab and Ctrl while clicking on my bookmarks works a treat:D

Appreciate the help, Mick

Next question: When clicking Ctrl+T to get a new tab, how can I set it up so that this new tab opens up my home page Google so I can start searching from this tab? At the moment I have to open the tab and select home page.

Download Crazy Browser, its a skin over IE7.

That'll do want you want & more, very easy to customise.

I prefer Crazy Browser over IE7 to use.

Aye, Mick

Ctrl-T followed by Tab gets to the search bar up the top of the page.
