we knew it was going to happen, as he had a large mass in his belly. He was like normal most of the time, but would occasionally show signs of pain. A bit of Tramidal would ease it. From the time of being diagnosed with cancer, until Thursday was about 2 1/2 months. Most of the time he was like a pup, and showed no signs of pain. He was 14 years old, so we knew all we would do is make him comfortable until the end. His pain increased while I was at work, and my wife took him to the vet's. They both agreed that putting him out of his pain would be the best option.
Good bye to my best friend.:(

My parents had a Golden Retriever many years ago and it broke their hearts when she had to be put to rest at 14 years of age after suffering hip displacia. They are beautiful dogs and make gentle & faithful companions.
We are so sorry to hear your sad news.
Read the Rainbow Bridge post that was listed when 2 Rocks mate had to leave. It's really lovely.

Been there, done that.......its a real shame,i try to remember all the good times we & the family had together. Our doby was 14 1/2 yrs old,and just couldnt get off the ground, and in the end would not eat,so we knew her time was up.:(
She grew up with the kids etc,but what can you do.
My wife then bought a sharpei, they are a real strange type of a dog,but nothing would replace the doby.

So sorry mate, you and yours have my heartfelt condolences and I know...treasure the memories and remember the things you did together, no one can take them away.
As Mrs B said, Kermit31 posted this for me when I lost my Bundy-girl last weekend:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
All the best mate
