I have a vent that rattles! No, not my mouth :p

My drivers side vent, when fully open rattles. Somehow it seems to have developed some slop in the mechanism. So, now at 100k when fully open they move up and down which makes quite a loud click from the mechanism. It was so loud it had me out checking for lots of things on the last trip.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can remove some slop from this mechanism?

Thanks!

So does mine. Always has. If I dont open it fully it doesn't. Have not worked out how to fix it properly though. Anyway it just adds to the symphony that goes with driving the defender.

It should stop if you unbolt it from the vent flap and then remove the bolt it pivots on, and put a bit of a bend in the section of the lever with the knob on it so it bears against the slotted arc. A similar bend in the link to the flap will help.

This can be done without taking anything else apart if your hands are not too big, but be careful not to drop anything into the dash - it is sure to result in having to pull the dash to bits to retrieve it. It may help to completely remove the flap by removing the pivot pins.

I'll have a look at it John. :) I hadn't thought of attacking it from the other side.
