i`m after some new tyres for the RRC (31x10.5x15) i`ve been looking around at whats available and now my heads starting to hurt. You`ve problably had this type of post a hundred times before, but i have never had to buy big fat knobbly tyres before. Goodyear/BFGoodrich/Bridgestone? i do not want ditchfinders or deathmasters as i prepared to pay that bit extra.

I'd never get BFG MT's again. Wouldn't even take them if they were given to me for free.
I am partial to Mickey Thompsons and am running ATZ's which although are good on the road they are really, really good in the mud and on the dirt.
I'm wondering how aggressive your looking for and what type of driving or image your after?
Xav.

I've just changed over to goodyear mtr from dunlop muds i rarely pressured down on the dunlops and rarely got in trouble with them, only had one repair in 2.5 years. i searched across oz for another set but unfortunately they were out of production. The goodyears have only had 2 outings without pressuring down. Not overly impressed with them yet, will see what there like next time out with lower pressures. I'm really unfussed by them at the mo.

I will qualify what i've said with the dunlops cost $160 ea and the goodyears cost $300 each. Value for money the dunlops were.

IMO the BFG's are a good all rounder. The MTR's do seem to get mixed reviews. MTZ's are expensive, Maxxis seem good but load rating isn't that high.

I bought a set of Achilles Deserthawk. I had never heard of them before but I have to say they are great. They are suprisingly quiet on the road. I havent tried them in mud yet(that will happen next weekend at Levuka). I only paid $150 a tyre but they are usually around $170. I suppose it also depends on whether you are driving on them all the time. I have my road tyres and my mud tyres so hopefully they will last for ages. Good luck!!
