Yes I think the top letter was possibly a bit tongue in cheek. Nobody from Albury would have said that in all seriousness.

Now come on - up here in Queeeensland we know it's all a southern plot. Our curtains will fade - cows won't milk - that poor bloke should return north where we do things proper.

Considering that we're supposed to be having a referendum on daylight saving in the west next year, I think I'll have to pass this one along to a couple of the local papers over here to give people something else to throw into the argument.
I'm sure that A Current Affair and Today Tonight could manage some sort of a beat-up on this. ;)

what i dont understand is why only 1 hour per day???If say we made daylight saving of 12-13 hours a day we would effectively have no night time, imagine the huge energy savings in every household not having to run lightbulbs as well as the increased productivity of crops exposed to 24 hours a day sunlight, not to mention the obvious reduction in greenhouse emissions, it just seeems such a waste for only one hour!:(:(

Hey Crump, that's right! It would also solve the problem for regions plagued by bats (er, there must be some). No night = no bats. ;)
Better still, instead of using up all our daylight saving in summer, perhaps we could keep it and use it in winter when it's cold and dark! :p
Lol!

The reason Queensland does not have Daylight Saving time is that little concept called democracy. Two referenda were held and twice a majority of the people voted against.

....and too think I thought that back in the mists of time it was all because Joh B-P thought that the sun shone out of his own ******** and he didn't want to have to get up an hour earlier each day....

I think we should all move up to the Arctic where they get 24hrs of sunlight as the sun just 'bounces' off the horizon ................................. at least for part of the year anyway!

I had a conversation once (around when they were mooting it for Qld) with someone who explained just how the curtains get faded. It comes from drawing them an hour early (to get to sleep by 8pm I presume). I didn't even get to discuss the relative benefits to East-facing vs West-facing curtains: we all know the curtains in Western windows fade more, so it makes sense to protect them by making the sun set an hour earlier.
I'd be happy to be interviewed by TT if required. :D

Wouldnt surprise me. Both of them are so hard up for decent stories these days and the complete lack of talent they have in investigative, let alone any kind of journalism, I'm sure that the majority of halfwits that watch these shows and believe what they say will take it to the poll!
Whats the bet both of them will do the following:
1- Both run the story within a day or two of each other.
2- One find the angle of the above article being wrong but with possibilities.
3- The other find an angle of being factual, but just because the first network was working on it being wrong, but then shoot down the first networks possibilities angle!
4- Leave all of us who are intelligent, with an expression not unlike that of a frontal lobotomy.
5- Leave those who take these shows seriously completely void of any real facts and with something to take away and ponder!!
I like to call it "Agenda Journalism"!

That is ****funny....:D
I dont know WayneP, I have met a few people from Albury that have a question mark where their brain is meant to be..........If you have ever spent some time there you would have noticed the cut spring commodore brigade with the 5 post bull bars....not just 1 but I think 5 of them in the main drag last time I was there.
There was an old lady in Mansfield when I was a kid that used to change her curtains in daylight savings to her old ones as she was convinced that it was the extra sunlight that made them fade.....and she wasnt joking.
I still dont understand why people dont like it, is it because they dont like to have to adjust their clocks or they just dont get which way to change it + or - an hr?
Even the greens keepers can show up on time the first monday of DLS but the Mechanic sets his clock to PM instead of AM and his alarm didnt go off

In a similar vein :
So what's wrong with this recent statement from our esteemed State Water Minister, Tim Holding :
"Rainwater tanks are of limited value since they collect most water in winter when it is least needed".

The reason Queensland does not have Daylight Saving time is that little concept called democracy. Two referenda were held and twice a majority of the people voted against.
You Queenslanders must have a different brand of democracy than we have over here.
Two referenda were also held on daylight saving in WA, and twice a majority of the people voted against it. Now we have a three year "trial" of daylight saving (this year being the final year), to be followed by a third referendum on the subject. Which part of "NO" don't these politicians seem to understand ?
Personally, I have no real preference either way - but what gets right up my nose is the arrogance of these worthless jumped up d#%*heads who claim to be our representatives, who think that they can just ignore the clearly stated wishes of those who they claim to represent, and impose their own will anyway. Maybe that has a lot to do with why the last bunch of arrogant fools got thrown out in the recent election - hopefully those who remain might learn.

Abso-bloody-lutely! Just think, with our plan, it could be 16 degrees and persisting down all day in mid-July, but come say 6pm - it'd be 30 degrees, sunshine and we could all go down the beach (or whatever) for an hour!
I reckon it's a winner!!! And...
I think we should all move up to the Arctic where they get 24hrs of sunlight as the sun just 'bounces' off the horizon ................................. at least for part of the year anyway!
Roger
We could take our Aussie "saved-daylight" with us and get the jump on everyone else in Antarctica! They'd be frozen solid in winter and we'd be in boardies and Bali singlets, pumping oil out of the place like nobody's business and they wouldn't even know! Penguins might be a bit confused though...
Oh hang on, you don't think we'd make the ice melt and raise the sea level, do you?
Cheers

Thats how I read it too...totally tongue in cheek :D
As for voting....of course he does...it's compulsory in this country remember ;)
and...I'd love to see daylight saving in Qld...but seeing as I won't be here for too much longer, when we move back to Australia we will have it anyway :D
Watchya trying to tell us NM? You not seriously considering moving from God's country are ya:(:BigCry:

At least up here no one has even attempted to raise it as an issue except once, many years ago it was suggested on the grounds that we should follow the southern states. That logic is guaranteed to get the idea scuttled real quick. Daylight saving means all the planes now get here an hour late from south.

Maybe if they give the pilots better sunglasses, it wont be so bright and they can see where they are going and then they wont be late...........:D:imwithstupid:
