Hi All,

A little while ago I got my hands on a roof console for a RRC.
The first thing I had wondered was how they mount up to the roof.

Now I did do some searching on the forum & found a few topics, but for the RRC, there didn't seem to be a answer. Now what I did read is some riveted to the roof...... not really what I want to do - aka holes in the roof.

The liner is also in smick condition, so I didn't really want saggy bits after either

so... ideas?? Some pics are below. I was just out at the rangie feeling for ribs or something in the roof but couldn't feel any.

The console in question:

Looks like a hand made console Razzor

There are ribs under that roof lining
Where the interior lights are .... Take the plastic lens out .. undo the screws holding the light in and you will see it

It goes in a left / right direction .... (handgrip handle on roof to the other handgrip handle on driver side)

Also you will find another rib following the top of the windscreen

Undo all the sunvisor & mirror screws to drop a section the hood lining down to find it

I found these photo's compliments of Walker

You can Just see a rib that runs along the very front just behind the windscreen and Im pretty sure there is one where the interior light is from memory of seeing a bare roof at my mates workshop.

Awesome, Thank you guys for the info. Now I know what to look for :)

I am guessing the ribs sit a little lower then the actual roof & you screw / rivet in to these?

:) thanks mate!! That's even better!!

So now all I have to decide is how to get the rails up there nice & tight & so they don't come loose.

So.... what would you guys do>? Rivet? Self taped screws? House mate reckons rivet & use something to stop it rattling like bodydeadner

Here ya go mate.

First pic is the mirror mount and the upper windscreen bar where you can screw or pop rivet your console to. Those holes are for the roof mounting screws.

And this is the roof brace above the interior light, it is about 1inch from the roof so use short screws or pop rivets to mount the console.

Hi LRHybrid. Thanks for that as I had wondered if it was home made or other wise.

I had a look over their site & found one that looked a little like it, but it was the wide version I think I saw. :) Nice spotting.

Probably a bit late in the day to post about this..........but. If you are stuck for places to screw into, I can recommend a very good product called Terrasol (available from The Body shop) I used this adhesive to bond my sunroof mechanism to the roof. It is a rubberised urethaney type of goop and will stick anything to anything and permanently.

Cheers

Just bringing this thread to life again. ZOMBIE MODE!!!

So years ago... lot of years ago I bought a console from a member here - and finally managed to find out it was this one here in the link;
Car Consoles & 4WD Storage Drawers - Department of the Interior - overhead consoles, roof consoles, custom built consoles, 4WD interiors, storage systems, vehicle consoles, radio console, dashboard pod, four wheel drive. (http://www.consoles.com.au/Rover_Range86_wide.htm)

It was suggested to me however that you could smash your head in to it in a crash with the Rangies low roof... however with this one its shaped and you would no more risk than
smashing your head in to a pillar.

So I will be fitting this up very shortly and I'll be sure to post the pictures on how it was all done. :)
