Roof open, so they can pull you out if you sink......

I read an article once (I think in the Good Weekend) about the army guys who patrol the top end coast watching for people landing illegally on our shores.

They spoke of water crossings where the driver had to stand and strain up just to keep his head just above water. (no roof).

Awesome.

That pic of the Def coming out of the Sheep dip - do you reckon someone opened the back door, or did the weight of water pop it open?

The modern BAV looks not a lot different from the BARV of old. I misred it the first time and thought you meant BARC which is a different beast again!

The BAR is based on a leopard Tank base, Code name Hippo! and replaces the old Centurian BARV

I thought it looked familiar, but I wasn't 100% sure as armour isn't my area of knowledge.

The BARC (barge, amphibious, resupply, cargo), is a more spectacular vehicle IMHO. the bigger brother of the already large LARC, the BARC dwarfs the larc and can carry 60 ton of cargo compared to the larc's 5 ton (BARC on left, LARC on the right of the below photo)

Now if you're on training and going through the water trough for the first time, it's very important to remember to 'burp' your dry suit! However, if the Marines don't like you, they'll [cough] forget to remind you...
