I have seen a couple of parked D2s with the rear end bottomed out.

Not to be left out, my 00 D2 has today been overcome with the same problem. It pumps up ok when driving, and after several short trips today, sometimes it went down, other times it didn't.

I suspect i'm still on OE suspension. While I realise it sags due to leaking air, what is the likely problem?

porous air bags,,
or,,
compressor leaking.

air bags are EASY and relatively cheap to replace, and (some) come with a lifetime warranty.

LOTS of posts here,,

The compressor is a bit more of a $$$$$ problem,,

Welcome to the club, mines been sagging since a desert trip recently with the leak coming from the bags. Replacements were ordered after driving down the F3 last long weekend on the bumpstops :o

I feel your pain. Went to fraser island with my 04D2 last week and had deflation problems in the back left airbag all week... the trip inland to lake mac was like driving a shopping trolley over a cattle grid:eek:

it pumped up again for a few days and then dropped just in time for the ride out of orchid beach. Did the dirt track back past harrys hut and when we reached pomona it tried to pump one last time and the bag burst with a huge bang and thumped down. drove from noosa to brissy bum down and am looking to get coils put on at MR automotive next week:) at the moment everytime i start the car the compressor is just blowing air through the burst bag.

may try to fix th airbag instead of changing to coils, but i've heard some bad compressor tales and when I'm in the middle of nowhere coils feel like they'd be more reliable. I love the idea of the SLS, the auto-leveling feature is great with my campertrailer, but reliability wins in the end.

needless to say, the TD5 ate the beach up. we were travelling with a V8 landcruiser and a new diesel navara, and the disco was a much superior vehicle in the sand even with the dodgy suspension. When the others were kicking up sand and sliding around, the disco just ploughed through:)

Sorry to hear about the trip troubles,,
The airbag technology is much simpler than the rest of the D2 tricks that you were so impressed about, and is one of the reasons they are so good in the sand.

pull the fuse to the compressor 1st thing.
buy one air bag and install.
put it on testbook and see why its overinflating.

some of the new airbags come with a lifetime warranty,,
ask your coil supplier the same question.
