I dragged my Land Rover, er, Velbon, tripod out of the cupboard today for the first time in years and found that the fluid head is leaking what I assume to be silicone fluid.

Has anyone got any suggestions on what to use to clean it off? It's very sticky.

Next question, can it be repaired? It hasn't leaked a lot.

Nah!

Although....

Tonight, one of the legs collapsed and it fell over breaking the crank handle for the centre pole. :(

Go get a RRS BH-55 (http://reallyrightstuff.com/ballheads/02.html) instead. RRS was expensive before the AU$ dropped, now its frighteningly expensive.

But the quality is exceptional:D

I just remembered I never mentioned the Pentax Spotmatic I bought brand new in back 1968. It has been faulty since day one and was sent back to CR Kennedy numerous times under warranty but was never fixed even though they claimed it had been.

The shutter jams open, the mirror jams up.

Maybe my bad luck started with it.

I hope the Sigma 18-200mm lens I bought for the *ist D today will be a good 'un.
