Hello folks,

After crawling under Grover to see if I'd managed to wash away all the mud from last weekend (which was great fun BTW ), I noticed what it was that went "thump" during one of the drives.

The chassis rail under the drivers seat, on the inside edge, adjacent to the drum brake, took a slight hit. The rail is slightly pushed in - not much - not cracked in any way, but did have a bare metal scratch. I cleaned the area up and hit it with some enamel black paint to stop any rust. Must have been a weird angle as the drum brake (and everything else) is clear of markings.

Should I be OK with this ? - the vehicle behaves exactly the same as before etc. Only noticed by looking from directly beneath the vehicle.

Mate, i would not be too alarmed at all, just be glad it was the chassis and not the brake drum or trailing arm or or........
As i mentioned to you i have taken quite a few "heavy" knocks to the chassis and it's all good, rather that than something that can break and will cost you money or make the vehicle unsafe. Fenders are plenty tough - it's us that feel the pain more when our pride and joy takes a knock

Like they sai,d Defers are fairly tough construction and unless you have caved the chasis rail in I wouldn't be alarmed. All your doing is just adding character to it and besides Alison said "Remember Chicks dig scars" :)

Post a photo if your still worried? We'll have more to bulls***t about then :) :)

Cheers,

Well, I called it a ding, but one could say it's caved in - the inside edge is pushed in a little - perhaps by up to 1cm max inwards over about 10cm of length. But there are no cracks - and now I've painted it I doubt it would be even noticed. I'll take a pic and post it tonight though.

Have a look at the rails on my 130 where it drags it's guts like a sausage dog:D

Or if you really want to see a chassis ding, I'll show you under Xena:eek:

Cheers,

OK! :D Here is the ding... and what appears as "chipping" is the rust proofing missing...

Hi Guys

Sorry we missed the Levuka Trip.

The old D1 was not fit for the road yet, despite Harry and I putting in 2 late nights rebuilding the Ignored (by the previous owner) defects.

oh well next time

Cheers
