Send a PM to Tombie2 (Mike). He is an expert at all of this stuff.

He is in Whyalla (or is it Port Pirie?) but I reckon he'd do ECU swaps by express post for you foreigners up north.

You can buy a Nanocom (about $500 from Rovacraft Vic, NSW, WA) diagnostic tool for analysis. It is a budget orientated tool or if you have stacks of cash the Rovacom system ($$$$). There are a lot of us her who have the Nanocom as we did a bulk buy through Rovacraft and they work well as stand alone or with a lap top.
It is always a bonus if you can afford to keep your original ECU, get another and have that flashed. Just gives you a back up, but is not neccessary, just a nice failsafe.
Most parts from companies like Rovacraft, Karcraft, four wheel drives.com, TRS, Jagspares and others can be freighted to you quickly.
There are not to many electronic parts you would need to keep. If you are going to be remote maybe a injector harness in case you end up with oil in yours and a fuel pump. But as said these can be freighted fairly quickly and are standard items for suppliers.
