When I bought the D2 (wholesale) in Nov '07 I had a pre-purchase RACV inspection done which showed the car as ok/good for its age (8 yrs and 178k's) so took the punt and have been happy if nervious ever since.
As I mentioned on another thread (astormsau's about the 4.6L engine) I know the car considerably more now and am discovering that quite a few repairs have been done in the past (its amazing whta you can learn by lying on your back). Couldn't track down the previous owner so I rang the two LR dealers who have regularly serviced the D2 in a previous life (no names but they're in Bendigo and Doncaster) and asked if they had any details.
Both were extremely helpful and gave me all they had on record.
You know all the things that go in these, well read on dudes....
Fitted within the last 4/5 yrs are (and using smilies as votes)

I have the actual dates aswell now.
Apart from the Top Hose, Its all been done between Jan 06 and Sept 07 (between 120k and 170K).
Might be of use for anyone looking at buying a 2nd hand D2 ie ideas on what to look for. Allthough its obvious, remember all vehicles wear differently depending on use.

Sounds like a nice bonus.
I called the dealer in Dubbo where i think mine was potentially serviced and got the good old "privacy act" wall of silence on telling me anything that had gone on with it in the past.
All depends on who you get to speak to i suppose!

My only question based on my experience with my friendly dealer would be how many of those bits actually needed to be replaced:wasntme:

Thats a lot of parts replaced - is this typical?
My wifes 2000 Pajero - 180k km's, has only ever had the brake pads replaced apart from normal servicing which I did myself once the warranty expired.
A CV boot now needs replacing and the clutch is getting tired. Thats it. Still has original belts, hoses etc.

No not typical.
But you will read a bit on AULRO about the front prop Double Cardan Joint which does not have greasable U/J's. Always good to watch that closely.
Also, the MAF Sensor pops up a bit as an item often replaced around 5-10 yrs.
Also also, Wheel Speed Sensors are often the first item to replace if the "3 Amigos" appear.
In many cases parts are replaced as a precaution or prior to a trip. In the case of my car it was owned by an Agricultural Company so servicing was regular and parts were quickly replaced (or as Tote points out, just possibly even replaced without really needing it or to give them their due's as a precautionary measure while they had the vehicle).
In my case to be perfectly blunt, "quite frankly my damn, I dont give a dear".

Mate good deals.
the crank angle sensor does pretty much what it sounds like it does.
It, through fancy electromagical smoke and mirrors, tells the computer what position the crank shaft is at so the computer can work out what pot to fire. It can also derive (on some engines) acceleration of the engine and the actual RPM of the engine.
Its an Exceptionally important component as without it the computer wont know where the engine is in terms of rotation.
think of it as the electronic equivilent to the rotor buton and cap in a distributor set up and your near enough to being on the money.

ah ha! a distributor and rotor arm, now you're talking. Use to be my monthly routine adjusting them on rovers, minis, vdubs and chryslers.
Thanks.:)

Except a rotor button and cap will cost you $50 to replace whereas the crank angle sensor will set you back about $1000 once they take the front off the engine to put a new one in. :p:p:p:twisted: isnt progress a good thing.
