View Full Version : Stupid questions about using 4wd.....

I'm still a beginner with Landys and while I can work out how to engage and disengage hi-range 4wd (depress yellow plunger to engage/stop, put clutch in and then shift to low range and back to hi-range to disengage) I'm a little confused as to how to shift into low range.
Do I just stop, put in the clutch and shift to low range?
Or do I shift to low range and THEN depress the plunger?
The instructions on the plate in the cab are as clear as mud I'm afraid.
Also, how do the diffs work?
I've been told engaging 4wd sends 50% to front and back but is it possible for it to sit there with 4wd engaged and only spin 1 wheel as it has no diff locks?

You've got the 4wd bit down fine. To engage low there are 2 methods.

1) press yellow, and then pull the red one back (and yellow will pop up)

or 2) just pull the red lever back.

diffs you don't need to do anything to make work, they just do.

Just remember that you can not use 4wd on tarmac as it is true 4wd and will wind up the transmission and at worst, break something. dirt roads and tracks only.

the 4wd puts 50% of the power to the front and rear axles evenly.

a diff lock makes the wheels on both sides of an ale spin at the same speed. good for off roading because if you put a wheel in the air the one on the other side will still keep turning, but it's no good for steering ;)
