I've only just heard of this book and wish to order the current edition (7th). I was thumbing through excerpts of an older copy and was reading about engine balance. Specifically the straight-6 vs V6 configs, with Bosch claiming that straight sixes are intrinsically perfectly balanced and V6s were the hardest to balance.

On this basis, why did LR seek to use a V6 diesel for the new Discovery range when most others were making straight 6 diesels? Did they have the rights at that stage to still use the Td6?

Bosch Automotive Handbook 7th Edition (http://www.autobookworld.com/shopexd.asp?id=7998) - if anyone is interested.

The reason they use a v6 is a simple one , to save room ,look at a tojo or a missan with the big six up front and the huge bonnet you have to see over:eek:
Yes the old dunnydoor v6 ran a balance shaft from the front to the rear of the motor to help balance the anchor not that it did much;):p
