A bloke at work just bought in a 68 oldsmobille 442 with a 455cu. Its no show car, but it almost is. I have never seen one in australia, and for the price he ended up paying for it, you would get a xb gs coupe or hk 6cyl in need of a full restoration.

Its a unique bargain, i hope more people start importing these old yanky muscle cars, i like the look. Anything over 30 years and you can still have it LHD, so it went straight through rego.

All he has had to do to it was fit a new exhaust, and a few gaskets, but apart from that it was all mickey mouse.

Niiice!!

I'd like a '64.5 Mustang or a Dodge Charger.

He has been pulled over by the cops 3 times so far (hes only 24...) and each time they have only wanted a look. One time he didnt even have the bonnet on, as it was on the way back from getting the exhaust fitted. The copper just laughed and said it had a nice looking motor.

They were one of the uderated muscle cars of the day. Overshadowed by the chargers / camaros/ challengers and road runners of the same era.
The 442 stood for 4barrel, 4 speed and dual exhaust.
That car is in great shape from the the looks of the photos.
Do you know what it cost him?

That jigger will really honk. Bonus is that all the GM stuff of that era is well supported by clubs and aftermarket suppliers. Easy streetable 500hp with a little work on the basics.

The car is an auto, (not origional) the previous owner calims about 400hp. It is in very good shape, like i said, it is almost a show car, all the lines and gaps are perfect.

It cost him about 16k USD, but i think it ended up just under 25K AUD imported, tax'ed and rego'ed on the road over here.

There is a great parts backup over there aswell, heaps of dealers still stock new and repro stuff for sensible prices.
