I found the below posting on the Defender2 forum.
Has anyone tried shorting out the clutch switch? Does this fix thr throttle response problem?

Defender2 extract:
Probably many of you had already tried to disconnect the clutch switch, as used on td5 engine, and discovered that... nothing happens!
I've done some tests and I've discovered that the clutch switch on Puma engine works the opposite way than td5 switch. This means that it's a normally open switch and its disconnection is completely aimless. The right way to "disconnect" this switch is to shortcut it.
After done this I couldn't believe I was driving the same car! The "acceleration tail" completely disappears and the throttle finally responds as it would!
Maybe this solution might be useful for defender affected by "running on" of throttle too. I hope you will appreciate my experience.

I did a conversion. Put A 2000MY TD5 In a Disco 1. I left the clutch switch out of the picture completely disconnected at the recomendation of some comp guys I know in the UK.
I'd have to say that the experience was indeed thrilling to say the least. I could smoke the tires (32") through third gear during shifts (I'm at 5000 feet elevation)
Needless to say Drivability wasn't what I'd hoped for and the now the clutch switch is now connected. For this year engine the clutch switch connects with ground when the clutch is depressed. This action decreases fueling and makes the shifts a bit more civilized.

i had it disconnected and reconnecter on the 90 when it was standard. couldnt tell the difference. but, with the td5 chipped to hell its far more benificial to have it on and working.
probably due to what revor said.

I must say I have not noticed a lot of difference with it disconnected, so I leave it connected as standard.

At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, I you ever activate the cruise control (available 2002 ECU's onward as I remember), the clutch switch MUST be connected.
