Hi Guys
Ive been collecting bits and pieces to build a rear drawer/storage system.
I made a start this morning cutting up steel for the frame.
The idea is 2 drawers under my Engel, storage areas behind, above and at the sides,a gell cell type battery to run the fridge and the cargo barrier fixed to the storage unit.
Will ad pics as I go along.
Todays effort.

Havent decided on slides or wheel step on the Toad as yet.
What size Engel did you end up with?
Woops - just read the details on the box in the background

Hey Graz
make sure you get a good look at my Engel slide before you start making one, easy to copy to suit your CaneToad project.Uses sealed bearings for runners.
I got it for $383 inc delivery from Engeland in Balcatta.
Much heavier duty than the Waeco and the other one I saw at BCF.
I decided to spend the extra and get something gauranteed to work.I have ball bearing runners for the drawers.

The fridge slide fits perfectly,I need to reinforce the flat bar close to where the welding clamp is.Should have used angle but I didnt want to loose clearance for the lower drawers.

I fixed the saging flat bar by welding a piece of 12mm flat across the front, thus creating an angle iron.
All welds done and ground where needed.
Next step is to create the 2 drawers.
How do you fix carpet to plywood??? Contact adhesive??? Ideas please.

I have always just used Contact adhesive applied with a spatula. Tried spray contact but it was useless. Built 2 drawer systems this way. works well.:)

Hi Nigel
It isnt quite as heavy as it looks. Can lift it quite easily so its in the 15 to 20kg range at the moment.Has to be reasonably strong as Im fitting the top part of a cargo barrier to it and it will have the second battery built into it(no room under the bonnet)

Hi Andrew, i,m a cabinet maker by trade and if you have an old spray gun handy two coats of a spray grade contact glue applied to both surfaces gives a good bond but using a scraper and applying by hand can be easier. ;) cheers Leif

Got back into it yesterday.
Put it into the D2 to work out fixing it down.I wasnt happy with the amount of space it took up.Decided to go without the drawers, just lopped them off:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Drawers would have been great, but took up way too much room.
Still intend fixing the top 1/2 of the cargo barrier to the fridge box and fitting the battery to it.

I tried you regular spray adhesives and they were crap, Then found a 3M spray in Clark rubber that i have sucesfully stuck Marine grade floor carpet to most of my s3. During a recent gearbox replacement it took a good grip with two hands to pull this off to get at the various floor pans and hump bots. have also used the same spray for roof lining which has lasted 12 months so far.
