The load area of my 90 was starting to look at bit ratty after about five years worth of crap being loaded and thrown into the back of it. There wasn’t any great damage, just a lot of scrapes and scratches in the paint on the wheel boxes.

I decided to coat the load area with some Hippo-liner, which can be sprayed or brushed on. I went with the brush/roller method which was fairly straight forward and gave me a pretty good result for just over $115 worth of product and materials. (Compared to a quote for over $800 for Rhino-Liner or Speedliner to do it.:eek::eek:)
Overall it’s quite an easy DYI job if you have a few days to do it over. I also did the front foot wells and put a bit of sound deadening in at the same time which made it take longer.

Firstly clean everything with wax and grease remover and then start sanding back the paint. The instructions state that you don’t need to go back to bare metal, just enough to rough up the paint. I’m not sure if went too far but I had a lot of scratches in the back there.

Then tape up any areas you don’t want lined….. This is very important because the Liner sticks to everything and is difficult to remove when it starts to dry.

I didn’t take any photos whilst I was actually rolling the liner on. Didn’t want to get any of it on the Minister for War and Finances' new camera…. I did however get quite a bit on my hands and arms, even whilst wearing gloves. And the instructions aren’t exaggerating when they say it is very, very difficult to get it off.

Azza

I got mine from ABI Paint Supply in Brendale. I don't think that they keep any in stock though. They had to order it in for me, only took about 2-3 days.

That looks great. Is it flexible at all? I just wondered if it would crack if things started flexing a bit.

Do you think it would be suitable for the front floorwell? I was looking for something to put on the floor of the Rangie I am building.

I lined the front floorwell in my 90 with Hippo–liner as well when I did the cargo area. I don’t expect there to be any problems with it cracking because of any flexing.

This stuff is designed to be used as a tray liner in the back of utes where the tray is prone to quite a bit of flex and movement.

I got my kit from our Local paint shop, had it in stock.....Dont worry I was shocked they didnt need to get it in.....

I used it in our RA Rodeo, a mate sprayed it for me. My fire brigade got it done at a 4x4 shop it was the rino brand but cost us about the $800-$900 mark , mine cost $105 for the kit and a bottle of Bundi.......;)

Does it dry to a hard finish?

I only ask this because the underbody noise deadener stuff you get from Supercheap never seems to dry hard, which I dont like.

this is top stuff - dried rock hard, Disco White put me onto it ages ago. I did all the rear of the D110 and works a treat.

I get it through my local Protec auto paint shop - normally they cannot be arsed looking up the product code but if you persist they can get it.

Top stuff.
