GDay listers,
Problem:
Following a week in the Murray Sunset National Park, with sandy tracks and corrugations I have been commissioned to improve the front bucket seats. My wife found that by extending the seat by placing a sleeping bag (rolled up) in front of her seat and adding a rolled up towel on top of that, the seat provided support further down the thighs, and the back pain from all the shaking and bumping etc was greatly reduced. Given that I had always felt like I was perched on the seat, being tall, seems like a reasonable request, to make the improvement.

Process:
Find a seat with a longer seat cushion and tilt back, that fits in a 1988 RRC with centre console. Electric adjustment and arm rests are not a requirement.
I will check out aftermarket seats like Recaro etc but I am hoping that listers must have already found alternative seats, and have hints as to which seats fit/ rails etc etc.

maybe look around at some of the auto accessories stores, they often have really good sales on racing bucket seats, and they have very good support all over. It could easily cost you $1000 for two seats but it would be well worth it.

There are other specialty after market seats they have bladders inside them that can be inflated and deflated to create optimum comfort, but again the dollars start to get high. Matt

I've got a set of recaros to go into mine. Much more comfortable than the standard rangie seats as they support out to the back of your knee rather than stop a few inches short. They don't have arm rests but neither do my rangie seats

Thanks for the observations, I'll start the search with after market replacements and let you know what I find.

Having just gone for a spin in my brother in laws new Focus XR5 turbo, I'm thinking the Disco seats aren't quite as good as I originally thought they were.

So I'm going to look into some seats from a wrecked Jap import like a Skyline. Preferably in grey so I don't need seat covers.

Having had a quick look last night I found that it would be easy to pay $1500/seat new but two buckets from an import can be had for under $100 if your lucky.

If you want a Seat with real comfort start looking at Pug 505's and Volvo 700 series....

I'm putting a pair of RED Leather ones in my pig...lol.... they are still in a Volvo 740 i'm wrecking..

I'm not sure if they fit, but I find many of the Commodore seats to be extremely comfotable. VT Berlina springs to mind for cheapies, and the current VE deep seats from the SS also. They bolster but dont hug and restrict you like what some race inspired seats do.
