Hi folks.
Well I'll soon be in Darwin for a few days (1st day or 3 in November) before staring my month trip with Leeds... Any suggestions for "must see or do" whilst Im there?
NT General store is on my list, but I was more thinking along the lines of areas to see or things to do. Once recovered from the long flight, Leeds & I will be collecting the 110 and heading south.

Crocodylus Park, Doctors Gully fish feeding, Mindil Beach markets(though I think they are seasonal), the Aviation museum, the indo-pacific marine aquarium is worth a look at.
Just a few of the top of my head.

Those suggested above but also the fuel tunnels near the wharf - an absolute must.

As above plus if you have access to a car Berri Springs and Litchfield.
Take the ferry across to Mandorah and spend the day at the pub!
Crocodylus park is one of the best croc experiences and very informative, not just crocs either!
Museum is fantastic definately worth a visit and the fish feeding plus everything else suggested above

Plenty to do Yorkshore Jon.
In the city area you can go
AcquaScene- fish feeding at Doctors Gully time depends on the tide, Museum, Crocodylus Park, Indo-Pacific Marine at the Wharf, children will like the fish and aquariums, Lyons Cottage, World War 2 Tunnels there are tours through them, the Wharf and you can get a wide range of meals there, Fannie Bay goal, more people have broken into it than out of it when it was operational, Chinese Temple. All bar Crocodylus and Museum/ Fannie Bay Goal are in walking distance from the city. New place in Mitchell Street is Crocosorus Cove where you can go into the large aquarium and share it with some large hungry crocs. You are protected by a cage. East Point military museum
Beaches: either Mindil Beach the Thursday night Markets closed end of October, or Casuarina Beach but now it is not safe to swim as there is an extremely deadly jellyfish starting to appear now once the humidity rises..
Charles Darwin National Park is only a few kms out, sand flies can be a problem but you can view Darwin across the harbour arm. Night time, a cruise round the harbour in a ex pearling lugger or the sunset cruise with tucker thrown in,, ferry trip across to Mandorah.
Further out is Howard Springs, go there late in the day when the ranger is feeding the fish, there is a small children’s swimming area there and a short bush walk.
Berry Springs Wildlife park an all day trip as there is a lot to see, then go next door to Berry Springs Reserve where you can also swim, and have a BBQ there.
Saturday morning markets at Parap wide variety of food, Sunday at Nightcliff and Rapid Creek.
Litchfield National Park another full day, and some walks there is a Butterfly farm at Batchelor.
The Crocodile Farm just beyond the Arnhem highway turnoff is now closed to the public.
Fogg Dam for birdlife, better if you get there early morning, some nice boardwalks but Parks are slack in doing urgent repairs on one walk.
Comtinue down the Arnhem highway to Windows on the Wetland then just a couple of kms to the Jumping Crocodile tours on the boat It is a 2 1/2 hour cruise. You can then continue on to Kakadu for a few days.
Adelaide River township, interesting old pub, Charlie from Crocodile Dundee, now stuffed, is on display plus the War cemetery.
Allowing for the weather which may be warm for you, I don't think you could fit all the above in!!
Don't need your wellies yet, only a teeeny bit of rain has fallen but it is humid and always carry plenty of water with you.
There is a good free brochure, ah heck forget what it is called, but it gives details of events in Darwin and the surrounding areas and is available at the airport and hotels.
So when are you going to meet all the Darwin members??? we could organise something somewhere.

I loveere about Darwin, I've been there 9 times now and hate heading south.
I took Mrs Hymie there last year and she also fell in love with the place,(No, she hasn't been there in the wet).
I'll be back next year after my Kimberley trip.:)

:Rolling::Rolling:
Haven't heard that before (especially coming from the Top End!:D:D)
There's a little place in SE Qld called Nindigully, it has one of those really welcoming looking country pubs and there's a sign saying..
FREE BEER ...(tomorrow)
When you're coming in the opposite direction, there's a similar sign:
FREE BEER .....(yesterday)
Free camping too!
Cheers

Its obvious that you only come here to shop:D as the Tourist Information Centre moved over a year ago. It is now in Bennett Street at the end of the Mall in what was the Reserve Bank then the UN Timor building.
You have sent Jon to Defense Recruiting :o
