A spare to carry,early V8 owners

I was just sipping my first nice cold beer after work and Jim,the young bloke in town with a classic Rangie calls."can you help me,just went to start the Rangie no go,there is a busted bit of plastic on the Dizzy that controls the advance etc,can you lend me one off your wrecks" "UNSURE MATE,the blue one just went this morning,the spare V8 has no dizzy,lucky for you the van still has the bit"
For you V8 owners,pull the dizzy cap off,look at the "allen key shaped adjuster" it screws into a bit of bakelite looking plastic,this is the bit that failed.Buy 2 newies,fit one put the other in the glovebox,without it your old V8 is as usefull as a TD5 with a stuffed ECU.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/04/436.jpgThats a usefull bit of advice tho the best thing to do is ditch all the moving parts and either retro fit electronic ignition to the early points dizzy or get the later electronic dizzy from a 85 mod on as for the buggered advance its not hard to fix it in position to get the engin to run :D:D:D

Whats involved with the swap to a later electronic dizzy?,I know stuff all about these little V8s,will pass the info on to Jim.

Just did my brothers county we fitted the elect dizzy and the external amplifier and coil from one of my rangies was a simple task just wipped out the old points dizzy taking note of were the rotor was and also were the housing was and droped in the elec jobie just have to make sure the oil pump drive stays put down in the hole if not like his didnt we fashioned a length of steel curtain rod with a hammer so we could turn the drive to the right spot so the dizzy would go back in were it came out wire it up like it was in the rangie and tighten down the dizzy and away ya go no more mungrell points :D:D:D:D

I had one of those go on me in the bush - no spare- so I used a couple of zip ties, one on the dizzy outside to open up the points.
Got me home.
Same thing happened a few years earlier with my wife's Rangie. I had a spare when mine went , but impossible to find the beggar when you need it.
