Hi Disco owners,

I have a 2000 Disco2 TD5 which I have owned since new. Besides the usual oil in injector harness (twice) & switch in ABS modulator, I have had pretty reliable motoring considering I tow a boat that weighs nearly as much as the vehicle & a heavy duty offroad camper trailer. I've clocked up 168K. I
recently took vehicle for 160K service by mechanic that specializes in British cars. He even has computer to check/clear error codes on Discos.
I noticed when I was washing vehicle soon after service, that the black plastic trim that covers wiper components had a crack right thru the middle. The section under bonnet was also broken in several places.
I wash vehicle regularly so would have spotted this, so took vehicle back to mechanic. I told him that trim was intact before service, & suggested that one of his mechanics possibly closed bonnet with something (tools?) on top of trim panel. Mechanic said that these trims regularly crack due to UV.
I can understand the exposed section possible cracking due to exposure to sunlight, but can't see how the part under bonnet could be affected.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers..Bruiser

Mine is also a 2000 Td5. It's first 7 1/2 years were in Sydney and was well looked after and the trim you mention on mine is in as good condition as all the other pieces of trim around the vehicle.

On the windscreen trim on mine the two plugs covering the holes for the LHD wiper positions are both faded and look to have been UV affected to the point where I wash them carefully so as not to break or dislodge them. The rest of the trim seems fine and I am surprised about yours - with the same suspicions as you have!

Hi Stu,
Mechanic finally offered to provide second hand trim panel, but still insists that his techs didn't damage it. I certainly didn't damage it & I can't see how sun could crack plastic not exposed.
I'll just have to wait & see if he comes up with the goods.

BTW do you have any pics of your Cape York camper?
Have you done any mods to Disco? I'm considering chipping TD5 if I keep it (considering upgrade to Disco3 TDV6)
My camper is a Camper Factory Abode. Bought 2nd hand from mate who upgraded to rear fold from same company. Has electric brakes, custom wood/stainless steel kitchen with 2 burner low pressure gas stove &, electric water on tap.
Dual 12V 130AH deep cycle batteries with Anderson, 12V polarised & cig lighter outlets everywhere. Also 800W 240Vsine wave inverter with 240 outlets.
Canvas is 15OZ Waxconverters. Everything like new & only paid $9500.:D

Hey mate,
Mines gone EXACTLY the same!
It's happened since I bought it 4 months ago, and (I) have never left anything near the bonnet when closing. Its a mystery how its happened.....maybe it IS the UV thing after all!!

Anyone any idea where I can find a reasonably priced replacement around Perth?

Cheers,
