Handheld Image Scanners

I have a few large maps that I would like to scan into ozimaps.

The flat bed scanner I have isn't anywhere big enough for me to do this accurately but I remember about 15 years ago when scanners first came out they had hand held ones which you roll over a document. They were about 20cm wide and had a roller / image sensor. This would be perfect for the job as I could just roll it up and down the map until I have it all scanned in.

I can't for the life of me find anything on the internet or what they are called, my guess is that they have stopped making these ones as the flat bed ones are more popular.

Does anyone know if they still make them ?

I believe they were stopped for production because they were extremely innacurate. Mine sure was I had some maps put on CD a couple of years ago by a friend who has large scanners at their priniting business. I wonder if doing that would be easier. Otherwise doing map segment by segment and then knitting it together.

Scan on a flatbed and stitch it....

Just be sure to lock your settings to a consistant DPI etc...


BTW which maps? Someone here may have them done already ;)
