Hi all.

I am considering buying a TD5 Disco, however I am worried that once the engine gets over 200k about getting it rebuilt.
The engine plant has been sold.
GoIndustry DoveBid - Land Rover - Ford: Storm TD5 Diesel Engine Line (http://www.go-dove.com/Auctions/AuctionDetail.asp?AuctionID=10132)

So what will happen if you need a new block, crank etc? I believe that these engines where designed not to be rebuilt.

Ie head cant be refaced, crank is the same and no oversize pistons?

I am just been a bit gloomy here? Or can the TD5 be rebuilt succesfully?

Mines got 210K on it and shouldnt require rebuilding anytime soon...

Has anyone ever heard of a TD5 bottom end that wore out, needing rings or bearings due to normal wear?

Its not the normal wear I am thinking about when the engine is at end of life. Or something does happen and you need a new block or whatever?

It was the same with the Tdi, though I'm pretty sure you can still get parts for them to do rebuilds. I also thought people had worked out how to remachine the TD5 head.

They have to supply aftermarket parts for a minimum 10 years after final production. As with the tdi and series vehicles someone will pick up the engine etc. If not we will have to find a suitable replacement.

some one will start to make after market parts, but Murphy's law is sure that one bit will not be available at any price but no one knows which one it will be.

And it'll be a M4.5 bolt with a T40 head made from plastic... the one that holds the entire engine together. :D
