.........VERY SERIOUS POST.........
I dont know if its just me (i hope not) but i have just torn my 6th set of pants after they catch on the door lock when i jump into my defender.
is this a common problem and how do i stop doing it, they seem to catch on the belt loop or Pocket.

G'day All, Well you blokes must be bigger than me, I'm about 5' 3" just a tad overweight 78kg approx, and having owned a 110 County since 1991 I have never caught any article of clothing on the vehicle fixtures, what gets up my nose is the misssus when she gets out of the lhs, she will let the door go and on occassions jams the seatbelt in the lock:mad: of course I say quietly :p dear, dont let that happen:p:p anyway looking forward to rippin my daks one day LOL cheers Dennis:angel:

The worst thing about an anti burst door latch. My 120" got me twice in the 1st week after a got it:o. I've never been caught by a series with similar door latch:confused:. As others say there is a technique in getting in and out of these things. After you rip a few more you will master it:p

How I stop it is drive my Rangie:D

Yep - I thought it was a myth until recently - but then I took out a belt loop on a pair of shorts and to tell you the truth - I was a proud man! I'd been "Defended". :D

Well I have had a few close calls, but no actual damage. I think it's because most of my pockets are the high, jeans type, not baggy open ones that you can easily put your hands in. I also sit with my seat fairly far forward even though I am 6'.

It must be in the appraoch angle because I'm a big enough bloke and I've never been caught getting IN, once or twice getting out though!!

I think Land Rover has redesigned the door latch because I looked at the 2008 Defender's doors and it may not be so prone to snagging your pants anymore....

Can anyone post a picture of the offending door item?

Nope - I have the new Defender - and have been dacked, as Kelvin aptly puts it. ;)

Mine has side steps . So I stand on the step when getting in and out. Seems to prevent "Dacking" Some times forget and get caught.

Been caught many times - it gets me by the belt loop. Luckily (?) it has only damaged my daks a couple of times and they weren't "going out" pants.

Re shutting the door striker on my seatbelt - I have been guilty of this. After the big prang when the car had been rebuilt due to the firewall damage I had to put it over the pits 2 days before leaving for my up north trip! Everything was going great considering what could have gone wrong and I was about to pass when the guy saw the knicks on the seatbelt. He aplologised and said it was an immediate fail - he had no room. he saw the "Landrover - Anything else is crap" sticker from AULRO and thought it was brilliant. he said if i raced away and replaced the straps and I showed him then he'd sign off without a new inspection.

I've never been caught getting out... just getting in... i do keep my wallet in my right rear pocket which would make it stick out further... and with the 3" lift and 33's i have to grab the steering wheel and yank myself up into it so that swinging motion along with the rest would help get me i'm sure ;)

Okay enough talking about it... going down to clark rubber on saturday to see if i can find something i could put around the catcher. Will post pics once done and fingers crossed it works ;)

If you can't work anything out with the catcher, try buying a length of rubber and tying it around your waist :p - it could become the Defender driving belt. :D

Ive also done jacket pockets as well- they have been torn clean off.
I must admit it mainly happens when i get in or out too quickly when i am rushing between jobs. If one is very short then i suppose you could be left hanging in mid air.
It is an art to get in and out of a landrover defender - maybe someone can make an instructional video. HaHA

tore another belt loop off today , not as funny though as on tuesday when my 68 year old mum was trying to get in the passenger seat with no side steps .she asked for some assistance so i just yelled out the drivers window to my ten year old son to get a pointy stick and hurry her up seemed to speed the loading process up a bit: angel:

I have been "dacked" so many times during my army days in series 2's 3's and perenties and in later years in some civie 130's that I was required to drive I just learnt to always have a needle and thread in my personal gear.

I can remember getting caught up on some quick exits both on exercises and active service even after removing doors (back in the days when this was considered SOP and not a workplace safety violation) those damn catches.
I can remember getting caught up with my webbing, rifle slings and all other loose equipment.

Funny thing since I have a Disco nowdays and seldom drive any "Defender Type" vehicles my sewing kit does not seem to get much of a workout. :D

Yeah! I've ripped 2 pair of trousers getting into mine. I am sure a thorough search of Landrover's books would find a sizable investment in a jeans factory. :)

I know after this post this I will awaken the god of door latches:o, but I have never had this occur.

Been driving defenders for 8 years and not even a tickle.....

I thought it was 'cause the Def90 has girly side steps but previous 110 had 2 inch lift and no side steps.....

As mentioned earlier, I think it is all in the entry technique. I tend to put my left foot on the floor then stand almost vertical before uncermoniously lowering my bum in... (Sounds funny when you try and describe it:D:D:D)

You guys must really shake your tail feather!

Three times in three weeks recently. Being a bit on the short side, now I basically take a leap at the steering wheel and duck my head going in. No more trouble with my pants, but it's only a matter of time before I crack my skull on the screen (or catch my fly on the steering wheel:eek:).

This seems to be a very serious matter so in an attempt to assit my fellow Aulroians I have undertaken a very indepth study of the matter and I think I have deduced a satisfactory solution to the problem........You know how some people like to take their shoes off when driving.......well................:D

So, if you buy a Landcruiser Sahara you will probably loose your shirt with depreciation, but if you buy a Defender you will almost certainly loose your shorts...maybe many pairs :D:wasntme:

When the Defenders were first brought into the Fire Service - it was the biggest fault & saftey issue reported on any vehiclee within the fleet...........

To the extent we still have a few in service but the SA light Fire Service of vehicles are now all TOYOTA........

Over ten years of driving the County I have never done it, then once I hopped into Lewy110's V8 County in the front passenger side - rip - brand new pair of Levi's between the back pocket & Levi badge a nice 40 mm tear. Too good to throw out at the time, they've now become shed pants but for years everyone knew what colour jocks I was wearing:eek:

second look i don't think the the guard would achieve anything but the end of the latch seems to be flatten off a bit i have only had the car for 3 months and the door closes and opens with out any problem .the previous owner must have torn his pants once to much:D

I know that I am tempting fate...what is the problem? I get into and out of the Defender at least twice a day wearing strides with belt loops...never an issue.

Surely the build tolerances aren't that loose? :p
