Hello All,
I'm looking at trading my fully kitted out td5 Fender for a new TD4 Fender. Looking around for some extra bits and peices to fit out my the new Fender.
I'm having trouble finding a Long Range Fuel tank or something to increase capacity. The TD5 is well supported - I've got a LRA 140l tank in my current Fender - but I want something like an Aux tank in the new one. Is there anyone that makes one?
Also looking for a simple winch bar, basically if I could have the factory bar with a small winch mount built in, then that would be perfect. I can find these in the US and UK, but not locally. Any ideas on anyone making these? Or anyone that can make these?
My current Fender has a Warn 9500 winch, I've not looked into other winches for a long time, whats the current best buy for winches.
Finally Car Seat Covers. In my old Fender I've got a set of CamoCovers, that company seems to have gone now - the CamoCovers have lasted 5 years with 2 kids without any wear. They were a great purchase..... I've seen some South African Melvill and Moon covers - but can't find them locally, they want $600 to ship them to Australlia. So has anyone found any covers for a TD4 Fender that are reasonable?
thanks!

Long Range tank: The simplest solution seems to be the 45L add on from Opposite Lock. These look very good and I'm tempted to get one.
Winch bar: I went for the easy ARB option, but having seen an imported Mantec Winch bar I regret not getting one of these. I believe Rovacraft sell them. Very nice looking bit of kit.
Winch: I fitted the Warn XDC its a 9500 winch with a thermal cut out.
Seat covers: Best thing to buy is the Melville and Moon through ExmoorTrim in the UK. Do a search on the forum and you'll find a thread on this. I'm very pleased with mine

I have:
Opposite Lock (OL) 45 Litre Auxiliary Tank that, when the fuel consumption settles down, will give you at least a 1000km range. My last tank consumption was 10.6 l /100k It was fitted together with an OL spare wheel carrier so the cost of installation was reduced. Both highly recommended.
Seat Covers are M & Ms..good gear but are more than $600.
ARB bull bar that can take a winch...no winch but no choice.
Snorkel: Safari modded TD5 version by my local OL Much debate on this one.

Safari now has a Puma Snorkel released. I've got the Mantec Plastic Jobby and its great, also cost me a lot less.
one_iota: 10.6L/100km... You need to get the Puma into soft sand I estimated 20L/100km and muddymech's Scangauge was showing 18L/100km the other weekend. Gearing was great (except when I tried to start in low 1 instead of low 3), TC works beautifully, almost like having lockers again.

You should have a look at the factory accessory booklet.
A winch bar kit is available that should suit what you want, although it is a bit pricey.

Thanks for the replies,
I found a couple of useful threads - I thought I had looked through them all.....
My current thoughts are.
1 - RovaCraft manufacture their own winch bar - its a square section replacement for the bumper, $535. I think this is what I want.
2 - Probably going to go with a TMax 12,000lb winch with plasma rope - these seem to be half the price of the Warn. But I can't find anyone that sells them yet....
3 - Proably not going to bother with the Long Range Tank, whislt it's been great to have this in my existing Fender - $1400 buys an awful lot of diesel, and probably a Jerry can or two... I did find that the TD5 LRA 140l tank apparently is a direct slot into the PUMA - so I might consider swaping my existing one into the new fender.
4 - I've tried to find the seat covers M&M at a reasonable price - direct from ZA they cost about $600 but the shipping is apparently $600 so ends up being too expensive. I did find COVER UP CAR ACCESSORIES
Who will custom make them for $400 a set front and back out of heavy canvas. I need to go and have a look at their samples to be sure.

I think you'll find the Rovacraft bar is the Mantec from the UK. Stuart's on the site and can confirm if they do make their own though. Looks good either way.
I got the M&M seat covers from the UK for well under a AU$1000. This will vary though with present currency issues. M&M in South Africa were more expensive on both cost and shipping.

Never had much passion for sand driving based on the manual 300tdi Disco experience. Just hard work.
However I should see if I can change my mind.:D

Having driven 300Tdi Disco and Defender in soft sand I can tell you the Disco is a lot worse than the Defender. Td5 Disco was better, but the 300Tdi Defender I still preferred in sand over both Disco's.
The Puma's TC and gear ratios are excellent though, friend with us the other day had his Tdi in L2 when both Puma's were in L3. The only thing I've found so far is L1 hasn't yet been of much use - except if you want to dig a big hole in the beach:eek:

Laterst issue of 4wd action (no. 126) has a 10 winch comparo. It give you heaps of info inc RRP and water injestion! I looks to be a pretty fair test. Hint. You might be better off hanging on to your old winch?????.
TD4.? I just picked up my new one yesterday......today it has 119kms on the clock.......happiness is a new defender:):):)
Best of luck making a decision..........

Any truth to the rumor that the Toyota hilux or 70 series Cruiser genuine canvas seat covers are a neat fit for the Puma?
the gutlux covers are $202 a pair (front) and the cruiser ones are $190 a pair.
For tht price I can deal with a logo.
