zu rims

I need to know what is the widest tire that can be put on a zu rim 7x6? No lift possible .....so we are talking about stock suspension geometry with Bilstein shocks and the tire height must be the same as stock. I have next to 0 clearance with the garage door:eek:
Also my defender will be used as daily transport for 70% of the time and the other 30% will be on fire trail, taking the bikes to the trail head or out to the dessert depending where we are racing. It wont be doing any knarly stuff, so what tires would you guys recommend ? ........thanks

I'm with Phil, 7.50R16s are great for desert & fire trail work.

Going from a 7.50x16 shod SIII to a wide tyred Range Rover, I found the Rangie was the first to lose traction (despite constant 4wd), even though the SIII was in 2WD on loose ground like coarse gravel and in the wet. Skinnier tyres remedied the Rangies problem. Why promote tractive instability, especially on a tow vehicle? Put the $$$$ toward jacking the garage door up a bit.

PS, let me know when you're selling the ZU rims ;).

i agree, just stick with 7.50/16 or 235/85/16, they will get you to where you want to go + there is a good chance you could pick one up when you are away from the big city if needed

Thanks for the replies feedback, unfortunately raising the height of the door is not an option, underground garage with structural beams and slab at a very "unsympathetic to defender height" I have to make sure the sunroof is closed or else it's toast:)
There seems to be a strong following for the 235's out there.

If you want wide tyres, then you might want to think about 265/75-16s. They are usually around 31.5", so a tiny bit smaller than 7.50's or 235s.
