Hi Guys new to this web site and hoping to get some advice.
I have a problem with my passenger side door locks they lock with the remote fob but will not open first it was just the rear door but now the problem has been cloned to the front door as well The dealer wants $400 for a new lock so now that will be $800 bucks for 2 locks There must be a simpler solution ie find the cause anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks Keith

Hi Keith

I had to replace a rear door lock on my S2 Disco a few years ago. Before getting a replacement I disassembled the lock to try and repair it. These locks have 2 small electric motors inside driving the mechanism, not unlike the type of motors you will find in Scalectric model cars.

In my case one of these motors was faulty and unrepairable and I had to buy a replacement.

Erich.

Do you think it is a mechanical issue, or electrical?

Is it a city car or a country car? If it has been through a lot of red dust that can clog the lock mechanism.

I had a go at dismantling mine and washing the whole assembly in kero then sprayed it with a good lot of Lannox (lanolin spray). I got a ton of red sand out of it, and so far (1 year) it has kept working.

thanks guys
I live in Braidwood and generally do a fair bit of dirt driving but I have been in FNQ for most of this year without the disco so it has not done many kms this year but I will check to see if it is a mechanical though I doubt it Ime thinks its electrical
cheers Keith

The dealer wants $400 for a new lock so now that will be $800 bucks for 2 locks I assume that's supplied & fitted with a major service thrown in for good measure ;).

If you do need the latches & can fit them yourself, the cost is a lot less than 1/2 that.
