Leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator, cracked trim

I just had 160K service done by non LR mechanic. He is normally pretty good, specialises in British vehicles and has diagnostic computer with software for Discos.
I started using him as service charges approx 50% of LR Stealers!

Unfortunately I lost faith with this last service, as I noticed trim that surrounds wiper assy now has a crack thru middle & part under bonnet also broken in several places. I know that this wasn’t the case before service(only washed vehicle 2 days previously) so confronted mechanic. He stated that these trims crack all the time due to UV. I can understand the exposed part cracking, but not the section under bonnet.
I have asked several owners with similar age vehicles if they have had trim crack & answer negative.
Mechanic also missed leak from fuel pressure regulator. I noticed clear liquid on garage floor & sniff test confirmed diesel.
With engine running there is a drop about every 2 seconds. Fortunately engine is crossflow otherwise there would be a severe fire hazard. Leak appears to be from area of circlip.

I saw on Discovery2.co.uk that this is a common problem with early TD5.
Anyone had any luck repairing these or know where to get resonably priced replacement?

Sorry Bruiser...no fixing it and it is a common issue. The o-ring goes and you have to replace the whole assembly. Its a bit of bitch of a job too... I would check out Karcraft for a replacement, no point going for 2nd hand on an item like this.

Sorry to hear about the trim issues...it sucks when you cant trust your mechanic...

Hi, I replaced this on my daughter's TD5 Defender a few months ago. I bought the pressure regulator from Karcraft about $350 from memory. I found changing this quite awkward - my fingers are just too large - getting that lower screw back in took a while. The job on a TD5 Disco will be more tedious this is tucked in against the firewall as well. Also, cleanliness is of the upmost importance.

I think if you could find the right "o" rings, ie size and fuel proof, I think it would be worth trying it out.

If mine ever leaks again, thats def what I will try.....

They really $350 over there, that equates on todays rate at £134 which is a LOT more than over here. If anyone needs one, maybe I could send one over ? Not sure what the shipping would be........mmmmm....

The fuel pressure regulator leak is a common failure on a Td5-engine. On a Defender replacement is straightforward, less so on a Disco, although it can be done by anyone who can purposefully use and handle a spanner and some sockets. Replacements aren't that expensive and definitely the way I'd go instead of trying to prise in and out some fragile O-rings. make sure you order the correct part as there are two different models of said pressure regulator available that are not interchangeable.

As for the cracks... too bad, mate, careless mechanics suck :mad::mad::mad:.

Just had to replace mine yesterday...... slow leak that only gets worse apparently fairly quickly....

Rovertech picked it up on a regular service and reckon its so common now with the older D2s that they keep the regulator in stock.
