80 litre Waeco fridge mounting points

I've had trouble over the last few years with fitting the 80 litre Waeco into the back of my Landy. The problem has been the width of it WITH the handles attached.

Now I've been running it without it being secure and I thought that it was time to fix the problem.

Thanx for posting this Chris and your rear storage project as I will be doing the same soon and also we just bought a 80lt waeco ourselves.

Just wondering do you use the cig adaptor that they provide in the kit? I was thinking about purchasing the RAPS 12R-U2 unit and installing in the rear.

I found the cigarette adaptor to be a pain in the bum. It kept breaking and it doesn't allow enough flow though to keep the fridge happy.

I ended up cutting the plug off and hard wiring it to my deep cycle bettery direct. Obviously through a fuse into the mix near the battery in case of a short somewhere along the way.

I still have some minor problems - but I think most of it comes down to my 40A alternator, not the wiring or fridge. Be aware though that the fridge does use more than the 'consumption guide' that Waeco put out :mad:

P.S - wife said that she's going to find it a bit hard to access the fridge with how much higher it is now. Might be worth a thought. I'm thinking of getting a step or something similar to make it easier for her. :(

Thats look great -- Huge fridge ...
I installed a 60 lt. and a gel cell in the rear and the AUTO ELECT that I got all the gear off said to use a flat trailer connection. 3 wires joind to the pos. and three to the neg. Other people cant borrow it as it will only fit your setup. And the best part if it breaks you can go to the nearest servo and get another one

I took the plug off mine too. I had constant trouble with it. I think it is the quality of the plug Waeco use as opposed to those plugs in general.
I use the Clipsal T type plug now for the fridge.

As for the fridge being too high. To get into the fridge in my mate's 80 Series Cruiser I need to stand on his milk crate and I'm 6 foot 2 inches!
His is also a Waeco 80L on drawers with a fridge slide.

I had to do a similar thing to my 80 litre waeco, but in the back of a Rangie. It was more to do with the fact that the standard handles sat out too far. I made up smaller handles from 25 x 3 flat steel bent with 10mm rod welded across as the handle.

Update after our trip - I'd got with the steel straps if you were going to do this mod. The wood worked - but it was pretty much stuffed by the time we got home.

Guess you win some and you lose some!
