This Sunday was the annual Rover Club display day, at Darval Park in Denistone.

I had only intended on dropping in for an hour or so, but as these things happen, I ended up staying for 4 hours! There was a nice cross section of Rover cars, with what I am told was an abnormally large turnout of the contemporary models (SD1, 75 etc). There was also quite a few Land Rovers as well, including two Series II Fire Tenders, a Disovery II, two Range Rover Classics and two SWB Series IIs.

Of course, I took plenty of pics! :D

The two SWB vehicles were most notable - both had been lovingly restored and were in excellent condition. One of the vehicles was a station wagon type hardtop, whereas the other wore a full soft-top, which I am told was "temporary" in order to get it rego'd (10 years ago!)

This one is owned by Andrew (no, not me...) and is for sale. ;) I seem to remember Diana posting an ad up for it at some stage.

He's running 6.00x16 bar treads... I know they are correct but it still looks under-tyred.

The two Fire Tenders were also of great interest and were in original-ish condition. I am told that they were originally part of a set of 3 purchased by NSW Fire Brigades, and all 3 saw later service in the NSW Rural Fire Service (or Bush Fire Brigade as it was) The third vehicle is still surviving, but is in standard LWB ute form, having been stripped of its fire fighting fit out.

This one is still owned by Annangrove Brigade of the RFS, and as such has retained it's later-service livery and fitout. It still occasionally gets used operationally I am told. It is lovingly cared for by Paul Anley on behalf of the brigade.

This one is owned by Brett Williams, and is fairly close to original specification.

Something for the Rangie-ites. :)

G'day All, In the pic showing the 2 rovers note 3 different styles of beacons, and the S2 109 fire truck I approached the current owner of said vehicle about it's history, I told him I had seen it in Dungog where it was undergoing a major o/haul, well there was a lot of umming an arrring until it was finally revealed that the P.O was indeed a Mr R.S (also owns a 110 Perentie) and has a property in the Dungog area, I dunno why he didn't just come straight out and say yeah thats the one ? spose thats what makes the world go round cheers Dennis:angel:

Thanks for the pictures. Unlike you I think the 600x16 tyres look the right size, although bar treads would have been fairly unusual on a civilian Series 2 - by that time most were fitted with more elaborate treads - my Series 2 had Dunlop Roadtraks - a directional bar tread, and my 2a had RTMs, sort of spiral pattern.

It did give me a great indication - and it solidified my thinking that I should NOT paint it dark green! Every restored Series II SWB I have seen so far has been DBG(ish)! :o

:lol2: I was thinking that... Maybe I should get a colour swatch made up for you when you come to redo Ol 'Ute - or is it not pink enough to blend in down in Melbourne? :p

There is a good reason for that - almost every swb Series 2 sold in Australia came new in that colour. Same as almost every lwb (except military) came in grey.

I do not know to what extent other colours were available, but they certainly were not common. Remember these were bought as working vehicles, not lifestyle vehicles, and except for corporate branding, colour was regarded as irrelevant.

It is worth noting that in the mid sixties there was some colour choice in Landcruisers - from memory you could get lwbs in either dark blue or fawn, and swbs came only in green.
