Ten gees will buy a lot more 4x4 in a discovery than a yota.
Plenty of help on this forum.
What to look for ??
Just go for one with less than 150,000klm preferably a series 1 as you should get a really good one for that kind of money. There should even be an ES out there with leather seats, twin sunroofs etc for 8 grand & keep the rest for petrol or accessories.
I'm assuming you want a V8??

With $10k you should get an awesome disco for that . The Tdi's always seem to cost a little more .But is worth it . Places to look for rust are the footwells . The floor in the back and around the alpine windows ...... others will pop up with a heap more info :).

What are your needs / wants?
V8 or Tdi?
Auto or Manual?
Weekender or Tourer?
I've got a V8 manual Range Rover Classic (so very similar to a S1 Disco) with almost 450,000km - it's been very reliable. I've also got a 300Tdi Defender and if I had to replace the Rangie - I'd be getting another diesel (probably Tdi Disco). Less maintenance and greater range on the Tdi. The increased range not only saves $$$$, but also weight on long trips where you'd otherwise carry fuel.
