Mick I don't think you can use the Melways maps with Ozi - well not that I've found anyway. The Rooftops maps work well though. Also with Ozi you can't use it like a Tom Tom navigator with the nice lady telling you where to go - well not without a lot of setting up anyway.

Yeah you can buy nav routing type programs for laptops, but for the price you can buy cheap independent sat navs. I forget the name of the product I was looking at, but it was about $250-300 for the program and I realised it could be just as cheap to buy a unit.
BTW - give me a call this weekend as I will be hanging around and you can come grab those maps.

What brand of USB GPS is it?? Garmin have nRoute which is a free download. Gives you turn by turn etc but I think you need a copy of Mapsource for the streetmaps, which is available by a number of "different" means...:whistling:

Not sure if this is what you mean but just in case:
Go into 'Device Manager' ('Control Panel' -> 'System' -> 'Hardware') and check under 'Ports' to see what COM port the GPS is assigned to.
In Ozi go 'File'-> 'Configuration' -> 'COM' and check that the selection matches your GPS COM Port (not that sometimes mine changes itself ). 'Save'
In Ozi go 'Moving Map' -> 'Start NMEA Communication with GPS'. If you do not get an error your COM port should be OK, look for action in the bottom left corner of Ozi which will show you that it has worked.
You can then play around with the settings to centre map at position, change to most detailed map of area etc. If you open 'Moving Map Control' you can also have speed and Alt etc.
I am only a novice with Ozi so i hope this makes sense and helps you with your question.

It made sense to me - you also need to put the link in to the files in the ozi configuration - normally I just use the Maps folder as ozi will search and automatically select the best scale map to use. However if you just want to use just road maps (eg Melway or UBD) you need to point ozi to that folder.
In planning disconnect from the GPS and then you need to open the map file you want to start planning on. Then to move to the next map select nearby map (north, south, east, west) under the Map menu and then continue planning on it. When you close you will be prompted to save the Track file which will save you planned track - again you need to tell Ozi in the configuration menu where to save these.
Most of the information you need to set up ozi is in the configuration menu.
