please HELP TD5 defender 2005 EGR removal

:angel:Hi gaz here, have received my EGR replacement kit, and looked at the fitting instr on rovertech site, but these are for earlier TD5's WITHOUT the EGR water cooler. Can someone who has the knowledge on how i go about using the replacement EGR kit please help.
1. Removal of old system.
2. Replacement using EGR kit.

easy, you just disconnect the piping for the EGR from the EGR cooler but leave the EGR cooler in place and connected to the cooling system....


you might notice it looks sussly like a heat exchanger from some steam engines or some of the up market on vehicle shower heaters that some places sell for camping..


I'd suggest that its at about this point that your kniving mind should be thinking along the lines of

"Isnt that nice of the Landrover engineers, They gave me a free water heater when they designed in a feature that is intended to wear out my inlet valves and decrease preformance when it breaks. No-one in their right minds would give away such a useful device unless it was to get back at the tree hugging hippy bean counters who mandated the feature in the first place"

its pretty easy... I havent done mine yet as I wanted to work out a way of making it into a storage heater setup.... but....

when you pull the piping off for the Exhaust gas you'll have what you need. cut the pipe, and then clamp on heater hose (3/4 inch I think) the problem is that I dont think it will deal with much pressure from the shower flow side of business..

My plan was to run a tank behind one of the headlights (or both) with the EGR cooler acting as a heater element so that for a single shower there would be enough hot water without having to run the engine to get it. since me and SWMBO take field showers regulalry and dont mind just past tepid water Id worked out that 10l was going to be enough for the 2 of us

Later type Td5 engines had a slightly different arrangement to early engines, often fitted with an additional water/air heat exchanger (Pictured on the Right) on the EGR recirc pipe, and a twin diaphragm EGR valve assembly, with integral throttle butterfly. You should remove the metal pipes either side, leaving the heat exchanger in place. Use the two additional blanks supplied with the EU3 kit to blank the open ends of the heat exchanger.
