Hiya,

Have just loaded OziExplorer CE on my PDA and now need to convert some (Shonkymaps) .img files for same. Any ideas on what program to use?

Cheers.

Do you mean convert the maps themselves to something Ozi can read, or create the MAP files for those that you have?

tried Irfanview ?

Irfanview will recognise .img files but not Garmin .img files. Apparently there's a dozen or so different formats of .img:confused:

Convert the .img files I have to something OziExplorer CE can use.

On the GPS australia forum I was told that Shonkie maps will not work with Oziexplorer as the img format is not one that ozi can convert to a map file.

I was told they are Garmin only.

My understanding as well, you can upload shonky maps directly to a garmin device using mapsource software and they are only designed to work on a garmin.
If you can somehow save them as an image file (jpeg, Bitmap, Tiff, PNG,) that Ozi accepts then you should be able to calibrate these into map files which you can then convert to CE image and map files.

I've used it.

It is very time consuming creating files. I converted them so I could create a file that I could then convert to and ECW, that I then importered into Oziecplorer and them convertered them to ozf files for OziCE.

There is not quick methode that I could work out.

You can export the files from mapsource also but mine isn't working at the moment and from memory I think that they are also IMG file. (G--min like to make it difficult to use there products with anything else)

I also noticed when I convertered some of the Shonky maps files that the road were sometime off.

Shonky maps works fine with n'route and other garmin products.

On the Ozi website there is a utility downloadable called Img2Ozfx that converts the files for use on PDA with OziExplorer

Can't say if it works with all img map files tho

Thanks, but it doesn't.
