I noticed the little plastic dimple is missing off the end of the oil dip stick on our TD5 Disco. I noticed this after having done an oil change - it could have been it the waste oil - now in a larger container or it could have come off during the oil change or been missing for a while - however, I think I would have noticed.
Can this be sucked up into the oil pump or do any other damage? - I have never ventured into this area - not had the sump off.

The filter will stop it before it reaches the pump and being plastic i think it would be chewed up long before it did damage.

the strainer will stop it and if it doesnt the filter will.
its only there to stop the dipstick from skewering the tube or your finger.
if you want to replace it clean degrease and dry off the end of the dipstick then hit it with some epoxy resin

Look on the bright side... it could have been the top cracked apart and you couldn't have pulled it out:eek:
And, yes, I have had this happen on one vehicle (it was an old Toyota sedan). Wasn't fun:mad:

Not as worrying as losing a rubber down the tube!

If you're sticking it down that little hole you deserve what you get.:p
Sensible to wear a rubber, but.

I wonder if that sick man was wearing one when he went that RRC.
Was that anyone on here? God I'm still scarred from that photo.
