Hi folks, at long last and after many requests for a basic complete Dual Battery Kit to suit a Disco 1, a Disco 2 and and defenders, I have finally put a kit together.
The SC40-BK kit is designed to meet the cabling requirements of a standard dual battery set up, where both batteries are located under the bonnet.
The cable supplied in the kit is 8B&S ( 7.9mm2 ), is long enough to connect between two batteries located anywhere in the engine bay and the cable is heavy enough to minimise any voltage drop.
The plug used to connect the heavier cable to the SC40 is pre-assembled to make it easier for even a novice DIY installer to carry out a professional installation.
The new kit is built around the SC40 Dual Battery Controller and has everything needed but the battery and battery brackets.
The SC40-BK kit also suits a dual battery installation in Defenders, where the two batteries are located under the passenger’s seat.
The SC40-BK kit price is $125-00 which includes Express Post to anywhere in Australia and the link below will take you to the kit on my TRAXIDE web site.

Hey mate,
I want to set up a dual battery in the D2 utilising the rear plug it currently has. Is this what I would need? Also assuming a battery and brackets...and then recommendation for installing it as I wouldnt have a clue...thanks mate,

Hi Stevo, what do you mean by a rear plug, Anderson plug or cigarette lighter power plug?

Stevo... One word... DONT ;)
Drill another hole below it and use a Hella plug for your fridge... etc...
Ciggie plugs are useless in a 4wd, the plug just dislodges...
And preferably, fit more than one in the back.. Once camping you'll be using a few things at once...
I often find the following plugged in when camping:
- Camp Light
- Fridge (of course)
- Phone charger
- Camera charger
- Laptop
So I'm heading for a kit very soon from Tim (plus one to put the dual battery in the D3 :)) and will be rewiring the D2 completely as far as Aux power is concerned with 5 'hella' plugs in the rear and an Anderson under the bumper for camper trailer / compressor.

Hi again Stevo, it would be an advantage to you to run some thicker wire to the rear and run your fridge off that.
You can always fit Merit sockets, or Hella sockets as Tombie suggested but you then have to replace the plug on your fridge wire, not a big job.

I got sick of the plugs breaking off ( was using the Hella ones ) so bought a second fridge lead, cut off the ciggie plug and permanently crimped it on to 6mm leads going to the second battery. ( Fuse in line of course ). No probs since.

Stevo I did 3 extra cig plugs in the rear and I also hard wired my fridge direct to the battery via a switch, I can turn the power off to the fridge and the 3 cig sockets with this switch, all the wire used is 6mmsq.
Here ya go Stevo, you will see where i tucked all the wiring behind the panel that's open, you can see the 3 sockets and the switch too, down where the switch and under the cig socket is the wiring for the fridge, i have since tucked it away so it can't be seen.

Thanks Baz for that....am going to pop over to Tims and see if I can do it myself...I know...scary thought. He says he will be able to show me how to do it with me doing the work. I have a 7 seater...with all seats being used...or at least 6 of them....so cant set up a permanent fridge type thing as you have. I really just want to know ( after last couple of times having major issues) to be able to go away and know my fridge has power from a reliable source....not the current source of a portable battery/ or issues with the plug ( this was in the D3). Im hoping to go on my first decent sort of trip to a NP in a couple of weeks and fridge and power is a major thing to sort. Thanks again for tips/advice,
Regards

Stevo,
I installed an SC80 last year with two additional power sockets in the rear.
If you want to see the finished product PM me.
