having just removed the carpet from my discovery (series 1)
i'm tossing up between replacing with marine carpet or whether to just put rubber matting in so as to be able to wash it out if needed (which it often is;))
any thoughts?
anyone who has replaced the carpet before, how did you go about cutting the front pieces?....the originals are shaped to fit the footwells and i'm thinking i'm going to have to cut 2 pieces for each well, either 1 for the flat part and one to go round the raised front and side or 1 piece that does the flat floor and up to the center console and a seperate piece up the front, as it will not be easy to fold and cut the replacement to match.
any advice gratefully recieved.

Closed cell foam will not absorb water and makes a good insulator. If you can't get a large sheet (industrial size) you can always use one of the old style camping sleeping mats.

You can then glue a thinner more flexible rubber to the foam, instead of using a heavy rubber that's not flexible enough.

You could alternatively glue (contact adhesive) marine carpet to the foam mat. The foam mat can be cut out in the shape of the existing mats using a sharp blade or a hot blade.

On my SIII I used 10mm closed cell foam with non-slip laminate for a tough well insulated mat.

Id go the rubber matting, I had stuff a bit like insertation rubber (black stuff) lined through out the rear of my old Defender. Was really good, just sweep it out and your right (or hose it out  )

In my new one, the fella before me lined it with marine carpet, its good but I wouldnt have done it. Collects too much dust, and although you can vacuum it, it still stays dusty. If you do any fishing the most annoying thing is when your hook gets stuck in the ****** carpet :censored: :wasntme:

Or imagine if you were to put your grease gun on it, would be a ***** to get grease out of carpet

My two bobs worth ;)

Yeah....go the rubber cos if you put carpet in the back and you go fishing and catch a whole load of whiting and you put them into six grocery bags and when you get home it is dark and you grab the bags and take them inside to show off to the wife, but you forgot that you had six bags of the slippery little bug-gers and ya grab 5 bags and ya leave one in the back of the car parked in the Big House carpark for 3 days in the blazing sun....that would not be good.:o....would it? Really, really difficult to get ya car to stop smelling like a prawn trawler:mad:..........so go the rubber.....and I don't want to talk about this........missus still not talking to me:D
