I need some help with a couple of unfamiliar things under the 110.

First up this electrical plug thingy.

Then this round fella. I'm guessing that's the vacuum thing for the non-working air con. Is it a problem that the white/yellow-green line coming out of the ball is perished in two? Is my vacuum escaping?

That can of something on the A frame, what is it what does it do, why is it clunking and what do I do about it?:D

I'm pretty sure that would be a load leveler, so I'm guessing its on a county. When its heavily loaded (or towing) it is supposed to push the rear end up to normal ride height.

I have no idea why its clunking, but if it's not doing what its supposed to you can take it off.

Cheers

I think the first pic is something to do with the fan speeds, mine has just about given up as the electrical spade connectors have corroded :(

I was going to put a post up about the same item, as I was wondering if new ones would be available ??? I've done a sort of repair job on it but I'd prefer a new one if possible.

Sorry, not on mine - which means it is probably something to do with the aircon.

Again, not on mine, but it is certainly a vacuum reservoir, presumably for the aircon, and yes, you are almost certainly losing vacuum through the holes.

Load leveller as stated. Likely to be non-functioning and can be removed (need to fit standard rear springs if you do, but this may already have been done).
Caution - remove the entire unit, cutting the pushrod if the ball joint is rusted up. Do not attempt to disassemble it, as it is under very high pressure (or should be)

It is quite likely that it is not the thing clunking, as the ball joint on top of the axle is more likely to.

Simon

Hope that helps.

The first pic is the fan speed resisters block, the second one is the vacuum tank which stores vacuum for a/c controls and yes it could be a source of vacuum loss if the hose is perished and the third one is the load leveller. They usually start clunking when there is excessive play in either the top or bottom mount. Pretty sure the bottom mount is adjustable but I cant remember if the top one is also. If it is worn badly and you dont want to pay the exorbitant price for a new one it is easy to remove it entirely. I havent had one on my county for years and cant notice any difference.

I said exactly the same thing when I first got under mine, I called up Lokka and asked what the big set of brass gonads were, , you can imagine the reply I got, mine was definately not blue, it was spent of all fluids. Interesting yet irrelevant fact, it takes less time to newter a 110 than it does a pony, and on a 110 you could put them back on if you wish to do so. The Pony may not appreciate this.

Rangie load levellers do not have the reservoir attached, just the leveller itself. There may be something in this:D

what springs do you use with the leveller in place?

are they different to std defender springs ?

The load leveller is a Boge Hydromat. Contact ZF in Sydney and you should be able to get a replacement or they can suggest who you can order thru.
AFAIK they are the same on the early RRC's.

The County has a MUCH bigger boge hydromat than the RRC.

AFAIR there is a place which rebuilds them for about $400ish. I cut mine off and binned it though.

Inc - check the king springs catalogue. Pretty sure the county rears and 110 (defender) rears are different.

Dunno what the deal is, but I thought ****wire (very thin wire:angel:) when I first looked at them. I'm comparing them to 130 rear springs, of course, and it's a world of difference there.

Anyone know if a set of 130 front springs would fit the back?

Std County springs are much softer than Defender springs

After travelling a few times in a mates Isuzu 110, then my first 300Tdi 110 Defender, I was shocked at how rough and Jap like the non leveller versions were. (OK, so maybe Jap like is a bit harsh... :D)

I am running army 6X6 front springs and army RFSV twin rear springs in my Suzi dualcab. I only use the secondary rear spring when I load up for a trip - otherwise its too harsh. No load leveller - discarded it years ago.

It’s a factory vacuum reservoir. Used to power the dash/ windscreen and floor vent flaps, and the fresh/ rec air flaps associated with the A/C and heater. It will be definitely leaking where you have taken photos. It may also be leaking at the rubber connection behind the AC/ heater control panel on the dash. Very expensive to buy new. I fixed mine by using rubber tubing that is used as fuel lines on petrol powered RC model aircraft. Worked for 13 years before I ripped it all out and replaced it with a later model defender dash. Now I don’t need the vacuum apart from the brakes and Maxi drive diff lock.

Turns out there's a huge difference.

That would never of been a charcoal canister

The spherical thing is a vac tank, on both a 4BD1 AND a v8 county.

I have a v8 county parked at my place atm. The charcoal cannister is mounted behind the vac tank, and the two are not connected to each other.
