Had a go at fitting a manual shift for my CDL,it took me 3 days of messing around but it works.I bought my cable from Brake point they make up whatever length you want.It cost me $110 but its cheaper than the alternative. And thanks also goes to landrover for making me go through all of this instead of putting it in there in the first place lol.

Now that's a good job mate, it makes a big difference offroad being able to engage the CDL.
Well done:thumbsup:

Matman, I'm not criticizing your work here, simply supplying a labour time comparison for others choosing to go with either a genuine or aftermarket actuator.
With the LR genuine parts (shift & cables) + cutting tunnel plate (without removing centre console) to suite new shift pattern of actuator – 3 hours.

It didnt actually take me 3 days lol just did it over 3 days as it was raining most of the time.If i were to do it again and had decent tools to drill holes and the like, you could probably do it in a few hours. The kits are to expensive all i had to do is make one bracket and a lever to turn the diff lock and that was it.And a manual shift is better as they never play up if you do it properly. And the center console isnt that hard to take out once youve done one before.
Cheers Mat.

Well done Mat, I’ve been watching CDL threads for a while to see how others are doing it. I would like to install the genuine LR parts (it’s a manual cable link and looks factory and super neat) BUT at $700 + freight (TRS) for used parts and over 900 for new there’s definitely a lot to be said for following you’re thoughts.

Been looking over here in the UK for a CDL cable to enable the diff lock after the electric one I fitted failed after 8 months.
I think that the above example is excellent, to ask a question what kind of cable did you get made, and from what type of company. I would like to follow the above as a template to make something similar, I still have the mounting plate, arm etc from ontop of the difflock spigot, but need to get the cable made or adapt something that is commercially available. Any ideas or help would be appreciated

Hi
in my search for getting my centre diff lock enabled again after the electrical solenoid type I had failed I found a reference and pictures of one supplied by a company called http://www.roverdude.com..
When I have searched on this link from the UK i only get a front page and nothing else.. Does anyone know if this company is still in business and still supplying his Discovery 2 diff lock kit???
If any one does know of contact details email or postal address could someone let me know please..
Many Thanks:):)

run a search on here, plently of info.
generally 01/02 models do not have the internals in the transfercase so need more work to activate, earlier models just need the levers/cables. :)
