Hi All
My 2000TD5 auto has developed an intermittent throttle problem. Starts and idles no problem but sometimes I have to wait to drive away as I have no throttle response also when driving it seems to have a flat spot until the turbo cuts in. It is quite dangerous when accelerating away at an intersection until it picks up. I have read threads regarding the throttle potentiometer and as I have a nanocom is there any area in particular I should be looking for.
Thanks
Ken

The throttle pedals don't often give trouble.
Does the engine management light come on when you press the pedal?
have you looked at the main ecu loom where it goes into the ecu? If not, unplug it and see if there is oil in it.
What fault codes do you have logged?

Pete.

I think the post above should read "the throttle pedals often give trouble". :p
Failure of the throttle pedal will produce fault codes, but won't bring the check engine light on.
I can't recall the codes produced, something along the lines of driver response maybe? Wiser heads than mine will know.

Jon, the logged fault will probably be Driver demand, but as I said, from my experience, they dont often give trouble. Depending on the fault, the engine management light can come on when it is pressed if there is no response.
Just because there isnt a response doesnt mean its the throttle pedal as such. Although its obviosuly a good place to start looking.
Where are you based Ken, Depending on where you are someone may have a pedal you can swap out to try. I have a new spare one here, on the Gold Coast.

Peter.

Hi all
Thanks for the input. I am in Newman WA and Land rovers are few and far between up here. I had the the harness and fuel block replaced about 2 years ago, is this a problem which happens again. I was wondering about the harness into the ECU and intend to take it out and clean it. Can anyone tell me if I can use CRC Non flam cleaner on it as the cleaner says it may be harmful to some plastics. I have not had time to connect the Nanocom but will try today.
Thanks Ken

The looms can keep giving trouble, and are almost a very occasional service item.
The cleaner should be ok (havent tried it however - so not certain.) but I would recommend removing the orange rubber seals as they can get affected quite easily.
Do a read faults with the Nanocom and let us know what they say.

Pete.

Hi Pete
Removed the red plug on the ECU and sure enough oil in the connector.
Running a caravan park up here so not much time but I will let you know when I check with the nanocom

Hi Pete
Finally hooked the nanocom up today and the only fault logged on the ECU was 20-04 EGR stuck open. I had the EGR removed 12 months ago so I guess that is always going to be logged.
I cleaned the plug on the red cable as I said and throttle response is now much better but I am thinking I will purchase a new cable even if only lasts 12 months I reckon it will be worth it. I see someone has mentioned an aftermarket cable around 200-300 dollars would you happen to know where I could get one.
Thanks
Ken

Hi Ken, an AMR6103 injector harness is RRP $148 from a Dealer last time I checked. I would just replace this one(Inside the rocker cover) as it is the root cause of the oil in the engine harness. Also, check the MAF sensor and the ambient air sensor(In the airbox lid) conectors for oil, I have seen it get all the way into these too!:o
If you replace the injector harness and clean all the other plugs, you may just have to clean them again in a few months time but that should then be the end of the problem. It is a LOT cheaper than renewing the whole engine loom...

Hi
I have just cleaned the MAF sensor element in my TD5 using contact cleaner and a cotton bud. I had no issue that I was aware of. The car is running much better now, seems smoother, pulls better and is more keen to rev.
Worth checking as it's a simple 10 minute job.
Cheers

Hi Guys
I have ordered the new harness $143.00 from 4WD Middleborough. I will check the MAF sensor etc and replace the cable and hopefully have a good outcome.
Thanks to all.

Over here the throttle pot DO give some problems and driver demand errors come and go.
Has anyone fitted a 3 stage onto pre-facelift models and does it make a difference ?
Glad you found the culprit - now just remove that egr engineering afterthought electronische thing !
