Over here in NZ I am finding that the fastest Discoverys are diesels. Often a TDi is to be seen flying past at the legal limit V8s on the motorways.:D
And I thought the diesels are the slower cousins.

I can say in all honesty that if you have a Tdi properly set up, it doesn't at all feel lethargic. After new injectors and having the pump removed, bolted to a pump dyno, correct plunger movement, and precisely calibrated by Bosch technicians, it's like day and night.

The Bosch agent I use got my old 200Tdi running smoother, quieter, more efficiently and it pulled like a 14 year old. I was amazed at how much quieter it was sitting in the car at idle.

It's also how you drive it.

A mate of mine drove mine yesterday and said it was a slug but when I got to his place (in his Fprd Courier 2wd crap box ;)) we went down the street and he reconed it feels like it goes 10 times harder when I drive it and I was driving quietly and he reconned he was holding it flat to get it up to speed.

I cant explain it as mine auto and all you can do is put your foot on the go pedal and hope for the best but he was adimant that there was a difference.

I also find that mine isnt a slug and the pump is about as standard as you can get it so I cant wait to get it tuned :D

Cheaper to run so we hold our foot down and know we get better fuel economy than the V8's:D

This happens a lot over here too, usually when the V8 is at the servo getting fuel:p

A lot of people new to Discoverys don't realise how long the pedal travel is, and think that they're "flooring it" just because they've had to push it a fair way.

It took me a long time to realise that with the autos, less throttle is more. It drives so much better pulling higher gears with lower revs where the torque is, not by flooring it.

i drove smezz's 300tdi the other day and those things are slugs no question about it give me my v8 any day and having mine on gas i get the same economy as a diesel anyway!

Ive driven Sschmez's as well and mine goes a lot harder, something to do with how the auto was changing I recon, his tends to hold gears more than mine so he runs out of torgue before it changes up.

It may cost the same to run but you wont get the range and there's bugger all if any servo's in the middle of the bush or the outback .:p

Just for instance, a V8 disco, 80ltr tank (same as Diesel) drives into Mitchels flat, does about 30kms 4wding and is on fumes driving out after having a 20ltr Jerry can drink.

Granted you have a gas tank as well giving you a bit more but off road you cant beat the economy of a diesel.

Neither mine or stevo's are rocket ships but nore are 3.9V8s:D

My 3.9 is no rocket ship but does the job for me.More range would be great but the diesel sound just doesn't do it for me:p:p:p.But seriously when i bought mine the diesel was more upfront cost so the petrol gas was the way to go for me(4g Diff).More range all i need to do is add another gas tank and 2 sill tanks for petrol and a bank loan and i will have the same range as the standard diesel.:eek::eek:

Elmo kicks along the road alright for a Tdi ;) Be even better now with a new filter :D . Kevin(V8) and Elmo(300tdi) seem to be pretty close together on the road tho ;) .

Cant argue with that....

Mine minus mufflers sounds like a big long fart....:o

After you get the range of a standard Diesel Disco after adding all the extra weight of sill tanks and LPG tanks you will need to tow a trailer as you wont have any load area.

Mine also now has a 135ltr long range tank....how many gas tanks would you need to keep up with that :D

Ever heard of the snail and the hare......this is more like 2 snails, 1 with flatulence and one that sounds realy realy cool but needs to pull over and eat a whole heap more than the other :D
