Not a member of face book, but isn't facebook the one where whenever you post a pic onto it you surrender all rights to that picture over to facebook ??
Not the sort of thing I'd particularly want to do with photos

Dullbird,
You could do that here have a monthly subject, set a few rules, everyone posts their picture they think fits the challange.... easy.
Doesn't need to be to arty, there seems to be a number of members that have the flair to select a winner, could be a lot of fun.

ok then lets do it......
lets have a new subject every week or fortnight......the winner (although no prize gets to pic the next subject fair)
but rather than having specific subjects i.e sport lets have words or statements so people can interpate anyway they want.......
then it makes it much broader i think...
I guess each person is only allowed to post up 1 picture in the week or fortnightly subject..
otherwise it could get messy.
and the only way I can think of doing it is if you want to vote for a person you THANK them.
I thought about asking for a specific gallery from inc....but I for one like to host my pics else where and i'm sure most others do saves uploading them again and taking more space i reckon.
so do people think this comp is a good idea?..............if people think its a good idea I will start a new thread and write the rules in there
anyone got any ideas they want to add...........now is the time to do so, then we can discuss the pros and cons

Lou, I would suggest the following instead of THANKS as that's not what that's really for IMO.
* Each person posts up a picture to a specific thread for the week.
* At end of week all pictures are then put in to a poll against the persons ID and everyone votes on the poll.

yep well i already thought of that but the poll is limited to 10 only that would mean that only 10 people could post pictures......thats not going to work;)
i know that thanks button isn't for that but i dont see an easier way of doing it;)

it's not that hard - creat a lsmall group of adjudicators who shortlist the top ten monthly with a max of 2-3 photos per member up for voting, then everyone votes for a set period... end of the year - I'd say you have the content of the next calendar ready to go!
also can be used to make a yearly award by adding up the points total formula 1 style and creating a virtual trophy to stick in your signature file or something similar :)

I was thinking one a month so there is time for those who need to go out and get a shot they want to submit and would keep the work load down. My suggestion is everyone submits one picture, 'Team Dullbird' picks out the top 5 or 10 at the end of the month, reworks the thread for a poll and then everyone can vote for the most popular.
Sunsets, 'S' curves, Straight lines, Night shots, Magic hour, Coastal, Industrial, Cloud, Bogged Land Rovers, Outback, Open spaces, your only limited by your imagination for subjects.

ok some very good points here......i was only thinking fortnightly as i was concerned that people would forget and get bored waiting for a month.
i'm only going on experience of making the calendar everyone started off all fired up then it very quickly dwindled off
nice idea about the calendar echidna but.....this will be a comp for a broader subject, where as the aulro calendar is for the cars ect.
as for the bit i have quoted exactly what i ment inregards to the words
and i agree as well it should only be "1" photo per person.....it will just make it more pleasant to deal with

I think personally that this might be the winning formula, a monthly pool, set out to a theme, and only one/two photos per person submitted, 12 pics chosen per year and presto a calendar format is born......12 themes modestly based around OZ/Land Rover....how does this roll with the other members?????

NO thank you! but no, we are not doing this for the calendar......the calendar is for the whole forum to get in on, and I dont believe people will do that when it is in this small section.
the idea of this comp is to get people inspired to take pics of a BROADER subject to take on something and interpate it in your own way...you make it harder saying that it has to do with landrovers! which is what your doign saying to put it in the calendar
i'm not producing a calendar that has flowers and shooting stars and pebbles in macro.......
the calendar will be for forum members 4wd's...... if you want to take photo's for this and submit them for the calendar when it comes around thats fine :)......
lets make this fun not over complicated:D

Lou,
I could see no reason why we couldn't steal the rules that they use on Overlander and then modify them slightly (or completely :) ).
Overlander 4WD :: View topic - Forum Foto Fest rules (http://forums.overlander.com.au/viewtopic.php't=35678)
I'm not sure of the workload that it would entail but seems to be a fairly successful part of their forum (possibly the best part)
Personally I would love to see a comp on AuLro

ok so was thinking could run the photo thread for the comp photo's to go into from say sun to sun......then i will lock that thread and we start another thread to which people will post the name of the person they wish to vote for (not being able to vote for your self) i will post a link to the photo's in the thread for people that have no idea what the thread is voting for....this can then go from say sun to thurs. announcing the winner on thurs/fri this gives a couple of days for the winner to choose a new subject and aply any rules they wish to apply to the comp...for example they may say no post processing or other things such as no filters what ever
then at the end I can just delete the thread with the votes....
the idea of this is so everyone can post pics......if we do it so we have to narrow down a selection for a poll then there has to be a few people that cant upload pics, and i want everyone to join in....
we could do the thanks button like i have suggested but then we may get people thanking for the pics not realising that they are voting
what do people think about this? what do you think about the time frame?

Sounds OK to me as well, but I wonder if the Sun - Sun timeframe may make it a bit tight for some to go out and get a pic.
However I have noticed on other forums there tends to be an initial couple of postings after the topic is announced then a hiatus and a flurry of postings just prior to the closure time.
I suggest we give it a go, fine tune over a couple of months and see what happens - if I can assist with any of the admin just let me know.

it can be made into a 3 week thing...so the photo's up for 2 weeks and a week to vote and get the next subject out from the winner!
derek you asked why sun-sun......why not?
easier to remember i think the reason i wasn't going to start on a monday is for a few reasons most people watch top gear etc
the weekend on the forum is very quiet
was there any particular reason for mon-sun?

I agree and have done this before in a different forum. If you open the timeframe too much people forget. Have either 1 or 2 weeks to post then arrange the winner the next week. Then choose a different subject.... If you miss the deadline for a subject, thats tough, but there will be a new competition starting the week or so after.
Only issue I have seen before is arranging judges that are interested in photography but are not entering the competition.
Maybe the winner could agree to sit out of the next weeks compatition and become the judge?

OK - I suggest we run the flag up the pole and see what happens.
DB could I suggest over the next few days you think of a topic and Post it into a sticky thread, within photography either Sat evening/Sun morning and we see where it leads us. (As it was your idea you get the honour of thinking of a topic). I think once its up and running any bugs in the system will show and we can fine tune as we go.
Previous offer of assistance still stands (if needed).

Start with one week Lou. That way if it is REALLY popular there won't be way too many to vote for and if it isn't very popular you can always extend it to two weeks.

the topic will be put up on Sunday evening and the thread will be locked the following Sunday evening.............a new thread will be started for the voting after the initial thread is locked and closed and will stay open until Thurs evening, then the winner will be announced...the winner will then have until the Sunday evening to choose a new topic and set his own rules for the comp (not changing dates only comp rules i.e what the photo must comply with to be in the comp)

This brings me to another point as well each competetion it is imperitive that you read the rules in each comp as they maybe different and the idea of voting is to vote for the picture that best dipics the topic that is set be it technique, style, interpritation...what ever :)
