Hi everyone, brand new to the forum and this is the first post so I thought I'd make it a new kid on the block dumb one. What is the best roof rack for the D3. Have had the car for a week now and love it and want to add a roof rack. The LR expedtion rack would be my preference but seems a little pricey at around $1800? I'm sure locally made would be cheaper but do they mount to the vehicle as well as the OEM one would. And, can the racks (which ever one it may be) be taken off the vehicle without too much fuss as I don't want to have it on the car for normal aound town driving. I assume the rails would stay on the car. Oh, and who is the best for servicing in Canberra?

Thanks in anticipation of a flood of replies...
Pete.

Hi Pete,

I had the same reservations about the LR roofrack price and the dealer actually told to go to ARB which I did. The total cost from them was around the $500 mark fitted and it's quite easy to remove. It's not as streamlined as the LR one but it's still OK.

Hi gasser,
Welcome to aulro. :)

Re servicing in ACT: Is your car under warranty?

Someone mentioned recently that the current LR dealer in Canberra is about to lose its dealership. The new dealer is, apparently, going to be Lenocks ('sp). If possible, I would avoid the current dealer as I have heard some horror stories of work done by them.

Enjoy the D3,
Peter

hmmm...something about landrover owners called Peter. Thanks gents for your advice. (1) I will investigate ARB and TJM racks and see how they compare and (2) car is 12 months old and still has factory warranty (a LR dealer in not in Canberra made me sign a form stating that I understood the dealer was not providing dealer warranty as part of the sale ) As I understand the Rolfe group in Canberra still has the dealer rights but they have recently moved from next door to Lennock Nissan to another part of Phillip (the motor trader hotspot in the area). I have heard of a good servicer at Mitchell but don't have a name. I'm hoping for a forum recommendation.

Cheers, Pete.

Hi gasser,
And all good blokes, I'm sure. :D

While the dealer may not be offering their own warranty, unless the vehicle has been serviced unsatisfactorily (according to LR) the balance of the three year/ 100k km LR warranty should have been transferred with the vehicle. Do you know the position in your case?

These days, you don't HAVE to go to a dealer to have your vehicle serviced while in warranty, but with the electronic complexity of the D3 really means that there are few alternatives for effective diagnostics.

I keep hearing about a LR service place in Mittagong/Bowral but can't get any details.

The alternatives are to either travel to Sydney or to the NSW south coast. (Other members on the forum will probably give some advice on the latter).

Good Luck,
Peter

Hi Pete,

I've got a 9 month old D3 that I purchased in Canberra and the local dealer has been servicing it. So far they haven't broken anything.....
Canberra Motor Works is the place you are thinking of in Mitchell and they have a good reputation. I had my previous D2 serviced there after warranty had expired and was happy with the results. They are not greatly cheaper than the Dealer but at least they don't break stuff. I'm not sure how set up they are for D3s as I haven't had to ask but the owner has a very nice new vogue and presumably the doesn't send it off to the dealer for services.
I've not heard anything about Rolfe losing the dealership, I'll have to do a search now ))
With regard to roof racks I settled on the opposite lock / windcheetah (http://www.dolium.com.au/view/page/120/item/RMRLDIS3-16.html) one which I am off to get fitted tomorrow.
I also looked at the Hannibal racks which I liked more but as I don't have factory rails they worked out at $1400 for the rack and then another $600 for the factory rails.

Regards,
Tote
